I do not have to be the best (poem)

27 Oct

I do not have to be the best

Must I be the best? Can I not just rest?
What is wrong with this life I have now found?
I could climb higher, become a flyer,
But I like having my feet on the ground.

Must I run ahead? Jump out of my bed,
Every morning, must I start life fast?
If I stand behind, more peace I might find,
Perhaps a tranquil moment that will last.

I see a bright light, filling up my sight,
Saying to me ‘here fame and glory be.’
But all that I find, is that I am blind,
And life’s beauty I can no longer see.

I quite like my life, there’s not too much strife,
I have enough to be content right here.
For here I can smile, and rest for a while
Going slow to let contentment stay near.
