Quietly on my own (poem)

Tranquility within yourself

Quietly on my own

I know I seem quiet and shy,
Wandering around on my own.
Drifting whilst the world passes by,
Or sitting somewhere all alone.

If that’s what you see, then please go,
For I live far beyond your sight.
I see a world you cannot know,
One full of harmony and light.

For within quietness, I find peace,
Within stillness, a chance to see.
My inner soul, I can release,
And within myself, I am free.

The morning windowsill (cat poem)

Lily-Low’s morning routine

The morning windowsill

Upon the windowsill, Lily-Low seeks out that sunny spot,
Warm as the sun rises, but by noon it would be far too hot!
With breakfast now over, it’s time for her to wash and clean,
Meticulously, until there’s not a speck of dirt to be seen.
With pride, she admires her elegant coat of soft white fur,
With contentment, she settles down and begins to purr.

Her head resting upon her paws, she drifts slowly off to sleep,
When you want to go past then, with great stealth, you slowly creep.
She may just allow an occasional stroke upon her head,
Although if you disturb her, it will be her claw instead!
As the sun creeps higher, she wakes and stretches out her paws,
Then jumping off the windowsill, she wanders off outdoors.

Horatio the Hedgehog (poem for children)

Hedgehogs visiting my garden

A children’s guide to Hedgehogs

Horatio the Hedgehog

Horatio is a hedgehog,
Has gone hunting for food to eat,
Rummaging around the old log,
Digging the earth with his feet.
His nose is sniffing everywhere,
For in the darkness of the night,
They tell him the insects are there,
So he can find them without light.

Alongside the fence he walks,
Looking for a tasty treat,
Moving round the flower stalks,
He finds a worm to eat.
Then once he is fully fed,
He sees that dawn is on its way,
So returns to his cosy bed,
To sleep in peace through the day.

Spinning world of life (poem)

We live on a beautiful world

Spinning World of Life

A spinning world in shades of blue and green,
Upon the polar caps, white ice can be seen.
A beautiful world when seen from outer space,
A world that is home to all of the human race.

Many other creatures call this world home,
And across many continents they do roam.
In the oceans, the fish swim everywhere,
While birds, bees and butterflies take to the air.

Across the ice, penguins walk to their home,
Across the deserts, the camels do roam.
Within the jungles, many creatures live,
Such a richness to us, does this world give.

The only world where, so far, life is found,
It’s just empty in space when we look around.
There is nowhere else all this life can go,
So let’s keep safe this precious world that we know.
