The sun is not keen on winter
The sun’s heading south for winter
The sun’s heading south for its winter break,
It’s crossing the equator about now.
Leaving the crops of summer in its wake,
As they disappear under autumns plough.
There’s now a slight chill in the air at dawn,
The curtains closing earlier each night.
There’s no sign yet of the frost on the lawn,
But it won’t be long until it’s in sight.
The window’s open for a while at noon,
As the sun throws back the last of its heat.
You can tell that autumn will be here soon,
But you are glad for that last summer treat.
Gardens are trimmed before winters cold breath.
Summers items packed away for the year.
Autumns landscape looks a little bereft,
With the hint that winter is getting near.
The sun leaves behind a land going bare.
But also leaves a promise as it goes.
For some green shoots of spring are hiding there,
Kept warm by the autumn leaves and hedgerows.
