Tattered sails upon the mast (poem)

Tattered sails upon the mast

The tattered sails upon the mast,
Too many storms they have sailed through.
They tell of a turbulent past,
Of the journeys towards the new.
Tossed and turned on the ocean,
This ship has travelled far and wide.
Always the ship is in motion,
On seas with no safe place to hide.

Yet there are harbours to be found,
A safe haven to recover.
But soon the ship is outward bound,
To see what it can discover.
Those tattered sails all still flutter,
Maybe they won’t win any races.
But through life what does it matter,
If they get you to new places.

Do I have the perfect life? (poem)

Do I have the perfect life?

Do I have the perfect life? a question I asked myself today,
But then upon reflection, just what does perfect mean anyway?
Does a perfect life mean that I can buy anything that I see?
Or that I already have everything that I need for me?

Is a perfect life something that is just hiding around somewhere?
That if I knew just where I should look, would I find it waiting there?
Could someone else find my perfect life, a present they can then give?
Or must I look to others and their lives, to see how I should live?

But why wish for what others have! Try to mimic all that they do,
For I have found that just being kind is enough to get me through.
Being kind to others can bring a joy, a richness deep within,
And being kind to myself brings me peace, when life is hard to win.
