The Passing of Tomorrow
Tomorrow comes sailing into sight,
As yesterday starts sailing away.
Briefly they meet in the deep dark night,
Where, for a moment, they share a day.
Tomorrow’s cloak sparkles in the night air,
Yesterday’s cloak has fallen to the floor.
But only for a while does it lay there,
Before tomorrow picks it up once more.
For yesterday’s cloak shows where we have been,
As tomorrow stores it away in the mind.
Becoming a memory of all that was seen,
Sitting forever in there for us to find.
In today, tomorrow passes on through,
Following the footsteps left by yesterday.
Bringing to us a day that is brand new,
Before, it too, begins to sail away.
