The Woodland in Spring (poem)

The Woodland in Spring

The crocuses and the snowdrops bring forth their colour,
Everywhere white, orange, and purple can be seen.
Bringing a brightness to the woodlands winter pallor,
Bringing to an end, winters shades of lonely green.

The daffodils reach up, unveiling their yellow glory,
Their heads nodding whenever a passing breeze is found.
Such a scattering of colours, showing nature’s spring story
Such is the beauty of wildflowers, growing all around.

On the branches, a touch of blossom’s starting to show,
The promise of new fruits upon the bushes and the trees.
Slowly their petals unfurl, and their flowers start to grow,
The promise of nectar for the butterflies and bees.

The hedgehogs appear and the birds begin their nesting,
The woodland’s preparing for all their young to arrive.
In spring, there is no time for nature to be resting,
For now that spring is here, the woodland has come alive.

Mountain rainstorm (poem)

Mountain rainstorm

In the mountains up high,
The rain falls from the sky,
Its water crashing down onto the ground.
In this stormy weather,
The rain comes together,
Between the rocks, new puddles are found.

These puddles spread and grow,
Their waters begin to flow,
Creating small streams that tumble and fall.
Flowing down the mountainside,
Over the rocks these streams ride,
Until a river is formed from them all.

Into the valley below,
The leaping river does flow,
As down from the mountain it descends.
Sparkling in the sunlight,
The waters clear and bright.
When it reaches the lake, its journey ends.

Nature’s Midsummer Music (poem)

Nature’s Midsummer Music

The Robin calls as sunrise begins,
Announcing that it is getting light.
Silence fades as every bird sings,
Their dawn chorus chases the night.

The Red Kite flies smoothly above,
Crying out as it watches below.
In the garden lands a Collard Dove,
Cooing as it walks to and fro.

The Swallows can be heard up high,
In the warmth of the afternoon.
Swiftly they zoom across the sky,
Singing out loud their high-pitch tune.

Sparrows are chattering in the tree,
Before they descend onto the ground.
Hopping all around the lawn to see,
What seeds and insects can be found.

The Nightingale calls as sunset nears,
The birds start to settle for the night.
But the Barn Owl hoots as it appears,
Opening its wings and taking flight.

Through the winter branches (poem)

Through the winter branches

Through the winter branches flows the winter breeze,
Through the winter branches you can see beyond the trees.
Spring may have the blossom, in summer the trees are green,
Autumn many shades of red, but in winter the hills are seen.

Through the winter branches the sun comes to touch the ground,
Through the winter branches the wind carries every sound.
Spring may have the buds, in summer shadows fall below,
Autumn sways the leaves, but in winter the sky’s on show.

Through the winter months the sun travels low across the sky,
Through the winter months the moon and stars are seen up high.
The winter brings a freedom, a distance clarity for tired eyes,
The frost upon the branches as, on and off, the robin flies.
