Night of glory (poem)

The world of the night

Night of glory

A night of glory,
Each star tells a story,
Twinkling like diamonds in the night.
The sky’s crisp and clear,
Brings the starlight near,
The wonder of the universe in sight.

Bats take to the air,
Their insects are there,
An owl hoots as it prepares to take flight.
Hedgehogs start creeping,
Hunting, and foraging,
All the wonders to be found in the night.

Lily-Low’s visit to the vet (cat poem)

Coping with a reluctant cat

Lily-Low’s visit to the vet

Come Lily-Low,
It’s time to go,
There’s really no need to put on such a show.
Please get in here,
Lily-Low dear,
You usually climb in when boxes appear.
Don’t run away,
Be good this day,
It will not be too long in there you will stay.

Oh, do get in!
You cannot win,
Stop trying to hide behind the kitchen bin.
I’ve got you now,
Stop that meow,
I will get this lid shut on the box, somehow.
At last, it’s done,
The lid has won
Now we’re at the vets, the check-up has begun.

We’re home once more,
Back through the door,
Just let me put your box down onto the floor.
Out you can get,
There’s no more vet,
See, there was no reason to get so upset.
Now let me be,
Can you not see,
That I’m exhausted and need my cup of tea.

Summer’s first hints of Autumn (poem)

Just a leaf or two

Summer’s first hints of Autumn

Summer’s first hints of autumn are appearing,
There’s just a leaf or two dropping here and there.
Showing to us that autumn time is nearing,
It feels just a little cooler in the air.

The daytime is now slowly decreasing,
The sun is spending less time in the sky.
The night time is now slowly increasing,
With the evening stars once more seen up high.

Squirrels start to seek nuts for hibernating,
Racing around the branches of the trees.
Birds have started to think about migrating,
To warmer places over the land and seas.

Some summer flowers are fading from sight,
As their bright colours slowly disappear.
But others will wait for autumn’s first bite,
And keep going until the frost gets here.

Summers first hint of autumn is in the air,
As nature starts releasing summers warm glow.
A time for the world of nature to prepare,
For whatever the winter may put on show.

Daisies and Buttercups (poem)

Small wonders of nature

Daisies and Buttercups

Daisies and buttercups, in the meadows grow,
Small sparkles of gold and white petals on show.
A splendid gathering of meadow flowers,
Swaying in a breeze, dancing in the showers.
Reaching up to the sun on a warm summers day,
The daisies close their eyes, when night is on its way.
The bees buzz around them, their nectar to collect,
The birds seek between them, for insects to detect.
A meadow of wonder, nature’s summer delight,
And on any country walk, a beautiful sight.

A Soft Comfy Drawer (cat poem)

A comfy place to sleep

A Soft Comfy Drawer

The Purrfect sleeping place, this drawer’s just right for me,
Clearly designed for a cat, I am sure you will agree.
It comes with space to curl up and a soft comfy floor,
And there would be no breeze, if you would please close the door.
There are jumpers each side, so there is comfort all round,
I will soon be fast asleep in here, all safe and sound.

What’s that? You now want to use it! Please wait just a while,
Let me start purring for you and I will make you smile.
Just for a few more minutes, please can I finish my sleep?
Then I will remove myself and it will be yours to keep.
Well, at least until my next rest time, around about one,
So if you could please leave it open, once you are done.

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise (poem)

New dreams are there

Lake Smeraldo lake 2

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise,
Climb up to where the eagle flies.
Release your hopes high into the air,
Watch them circle serenely up there.

Let tomorrow’s dreams call out to you,
Listen as the sunrise comes into view.
Watch as your hopes fly into your dreams,
Gliding effortlessly in dawns sunbeams.

Feel the breeze of change sweep gently past,
Bringing you some new dreams that will last.
Let dawns sun warm the spirit inside,
And upon those new dreams, take a ride.

The Royal Oak tree (poem)

A wonder of nature

W M Oak tree 1

The Royal Oak tree

The Royal Oak tree, over a hundred years old,
Planted by the queen, or so the story is told.
Not far from the crossroads, there it stands so proud,
There are times when its top gets lost in a cloud.

You can see it on the horizon from far away,
And under its branches, the children love to play,
Chasing each other around or having a singsong.
Throughout every season it stands there tall and strong.

In spring the old oak slowly begins to awake,
Showing tips of green from the leaves it’s starting to make.
In summer it cast its shadow far over the ground,
Where shelter from the hot summer sun can be found.

In autumn comes the soft shades of red, gold, and brown.
A royal elegance, a beautiful crown.
When winter arrives, its leaves fade and disappear,
As the old oak goes back to sleep for another year.

Stretching of the light (poem)

The days are lighter for longer

Stretching of the light

There is just a fraction of warmth in the midday sun,
A hint of spring as the days begin to stretch their light.
On this sunrise, you can see winters work is not yet done,
From the deep frost that it laid down during the night.

This landscape of frost is glistening in the early dawn,
Winter is firmly in command at the start of this new day.
But from the white bells of the snowdrops, growing in the lawn,
Spring is letting us know that it is not too far away.

Upon the branches, tips of the first buds are appearing,
Hinting to winter that it’s time to pack its bags and go.
The stretching of the light tells us that spring is nearing,
And that soon the blossoms of the spring will be on show.

A November Rose (poem)

Nature’s last offering of summer beauty.

A November Rose

A November rose, autumn’s sweet delight,
Blossoming as summer is fading from sight.
Its tender petals, defying the coldness,
Summer’s beauty living within its boldness.
In the autumn breeze, the rose gently sways,
A touch of colour for the darkening days.
Nature’s lost summer still there for us to see,
Beauty’s last glance before winter is set free.
It’s autumn splendour now fading for the year,
Until the spring, when the new buds will appear.

Purrfect sleeping place (cat poem)

Alfie knows where there’s a good place to sleep

To read Lily-Low’s first poem:
The Morning Windowsill

Purrfect Sleeping place

It’s too hot and Alfie can find no shade in his garden,
But next door, he knows just where the perfect spot can be found,
And since he is a cat, he asks for nobody’s pardon,
To climb up onto the fence and take a look around.

He knows that Lily-Low claims this garden for her own,
As her windowsill looks out upon all there is to see.
But this afternoon, her windowsill is all alone,
For in this sun, it is far too hot a place for her to be!

In stealth, he climbs down and begins to slowly creep,
Going around the bush towards that old garden seat.
Soon he will be able to fall peacefully asleep,
Deep in the shade, away from all this summer heat.

Alas, no sooner had he settled down for his snooze,
The backdoor opens and Lily-Low wanders outside.
Oh dear! Which direction is she now going to choose?
Although if he stays still, then he may be able to hide.

Lily-Low looks around, she already knows he is there!
Her white coat shining brightly in the afternoon sun.
Her green eyes saying quite clearly ‘of you, I am aware!’
And Alfie knows that it is time for him to get up and run!

Back over the fence he retreats as fast as he is able,
With a contented purr Lily-Low reclaims her own space.
But in his own garden, the sunshade is now up by the table,
So he can sleep peacefully in his own shady place!
