The flowers say that spring is now here (poem)

The flowers say that spring is now here

Where has the spring gone? It should now be in view,
The crocuses are saying this is true.
The skies are still grey, they’re hiding the sun,
But the primroses tell me spring has begun.
The wind is howling upon this new day,
Within its cold breath, the daffodils sway.
The rain is still falling out of the skies,
But against all of this, the snowdrops rise.

The weather is dull, the cold is still near,
But the flowers say that spring is now here.
Up in the trees just bare branches are seen,
But look closer and their tips are now green.
All of these clues tell us spring is nearby,
It’s just being hidden by the grey sky.
Soon the sun will find a way to break through,
Then spring will arrive, it’s long overdue.

Spring is pushing out winter (poem)

Spring is pushing out winter

Spring is pushing out winter as the leaves begin to show,
Blossom’s on the branches as spring flowers begin to grow.
Daisies and buttercups are appearing through the gasses,
The gaps of winter are fading with each day that passes.

The bees are seen once more as they buzz between the flowers,
The sun is getting warmer in between the spring showers.
Summer birds are returning, each day a few more are seen,
Back from the warmer lands, where for the winter they have been.

The hedgehogs appear as they waken from their winter sleep,
Across the farmers fields, lambs can be seen amongst the sheep.
Spring is pushing out winter from the bushes and the trees,
The gaps filling with leaves, swaying gently in the spring breeze.

Snowdrops, the heralds of spring (poem)

Snowdrops, the heralds of spring

Beneath the cold winter ground, the snowdrops start growing,
Long before spring begins, their dark green tips start showing.
Defying those frosty mornings, ignoring all the cold,
Their small tips showing when no other flowers are so bold.

Defying winters grasp upon the land all around,
Shouting out clearly to all that spring will soon be found.
They may face the frost upon them, a snow flurry or two,
But those leaves keep pushing up, as more come into view.

Winter may still be here, but the snowdrops are on their way,
Fighting up through the ground, the snowdrops are here to stay.
Winter must soon surrender, accepting that spring has won,
As more spring flowers follow what the snowdrops have begun.

Daisies and Buttercups (poem)

Daisies and Buttercups

Daisies and buttercups, in the meadows grow,
Small sparkles of gold and white petals on show.
A splendid gathering of meadow flowers,
Swaying in a breeze, dancing in the showers.
Reaching up to the sun on a warm summers day,
The daisies close their eyes, when night is on its way.
The bees buzz around them, their nectar to collect,
The birds seek between them, for insects to detect.
A meadow of wonder, nature’s summer delight,
And on any country walk, a beautiful sight.

Early spring woodland walk (poem)

Early spring woodland walk

The morning is fresh and bright,
There’s hardly a cloud in sight,
In the woodland there’s just the gentleness of a breeze.
It’s the beginning of spring,
The birds cheerfully sing,
Perched upon the bushes and the branches of the trees.

There are snowdrops without snow,
And the daffodils are on show,
Their yellows and whites breaking through the woodland green.
Walking a bit further in,
You see the bluebells begin,
A carpet of purple everywhere to be seen.

In the breeze, the blossom’s bobbing,
Upon the branch there’s a robin,
Singing loudly, with its red breast proudly there to see.
The branches are now showing,
Green tips that will start growing,
Into the leaves that will fill the woodland’s canopy.

The hedgehogs have yet to wake,
The birds their nests yet to make,
As their courtship songs go twittering through the air.
There’s a couple of early bees,
Upon the blossom of the trees,
Telling you that in the woodland, spring is almost there.

Nature’s summer wonders (poem)

Nature’s summer wonders

The sun rolls lazily across our summer sky,
The gardens are putting on their summer show.
Above them, the swifts and swallows are flying high,
While the butterflies dance upon the flowers below.

Roses burst open in colours of yellows, pinks and reds,
Their blooms sway gently from a passing summer breeze.
The Buddleias and the flowers in their flowerbeds,
Are surrendering their pollen to the passing bees.

In the woodlands, the animals are raising their young,
The trees providing the shelter and homes that they need.
Its canopy echoes to the songs the birds have sung,
Its spring blossom slowly changing to autumn seed.

The Woodland in Spring (poem)

The Woodland in Spring

The crocuses and the snowdrops bring forth their colour,
Everywhere white, orange, and purple can be seen.
Bringing a brightness to the woodlands winter pallor,
Bringing to an end, winters shades of lonely green.

The daffodils reach up, unveiling their yellow glory,
Their heads nodding whenever a passing breeze is found.
Such a scattering of colours, showing nature’s spring story
Such is the beauty of wildflowers, growing all around.

On the branches, a touch of blossom’s starting to show,
The promise of new fruits upon the bushes and the trees.
Slowly their petals unfurl, and their flowers start to grow,
The promise of nectar for the butterflies and bees.

The hedgehogs appear and the birds begin their nesting,
The woodland’s preparing for all their young to arrive.
In spring, there is no time for nature to be resting,
For now that spring is here, the woodland has come alive.
