Countryside Freedom (poem)

Countryside Freedom

Out in the country, there’s space to be free,
To walk or to sit as I please.
A spot I have found, to sit on the ground,
Wrapping my arms around my knees.

The birds above fly, in a clear blue sky,
Their singing refreshes my day.
A squirrel I see, high up in a tree,
Collecting nuts to hide away.

I get up to look, what’s down by the brook,
Where the reeds bend in the rivers flow.
I see fish swim by, and a dragonfly,
There’s a duck with ducklings in tow.

A red setting sun, says today is done,
As nature settles down for the night.
As darkness draws near, the stars now appear,
And I walk home under the starlight.

One Earth, One Life (poem)

One Earth, One Life

One earth, one life, a world shared by all,
One people joined under the living sun.
One chance for us to hear harmony’s call,
Echoed softly from when the world begun.

One life is ours, a journey that we share,
From creation until our time ends.
During that time, it is for us to care,
For us to love, to laugh and to make friends.

Too short for anger, too precious to hate,
Our lives should be as a gift to mankind.
As for forgiveness, it is not too late,
To seek for peace and to open our mind.

To share all our ways, to hold out our hand,
To not let hate win, nor hide behind fear.
One people, one life, one earth and one land,
Let us reach out and let others draw near.

Bedtime child (poem)

Bedtime child

The story telling is over, the book is placed back upon the shelf,
Carefully going round the lamp to avoid knocking off the elf,
A peacefulness upon their face, a busy day now at an end,
Reading, writing and drawing, then playing with a friend.

Straightening up the coronet, putting the cover on the crown,
Picking up the tablecloth that became that day, a gown,
The jigsaw’s left abandoned, scattered around the floor,
The animals have lost their box, found hiding behind the door.

The bed moves slightly, a final adjustment to where they lay,
Before descending deeper into the dream world where they play,
Then leaving them to their dreaming, and switching off the light,
Another childhood day now over, and another restful night.

Humanities Plea (poem)

Humanities Plea

Let’s abandon today and leave yesterday behind,
Run away from the future and step out of our mind,
Offload all the stress, remove the fragments of pain,
Unpack all our happiness and start living again.

Let’s fold away tension and tuck it safely away,
Open up childhood memories and learn how to play,
Wipe clear all that anger that blinds us from the truth,
Throw out that bitterness that destroys our inner youth.

Let’s remember that we are all just one human race,
That we all share the same world, in this time and place,
Let compassion and truth be our soul’s inner guide,
That confusion and fear, from our love, can never hide.

Let’s give out our humanity and share all our dreams,
Let’s repair the hurt, so it does not split at the seams,
Let’s hold onto harmony when clouds of hate rush by,
And hoist up the flag of love, for love can never die.

Don’t let the anger win (poem)

Don’t let the anger win

Don’t let the anger win, don’t let the poison start.
Don’t let the hate begin, and tear us all apart.
One world we all do share, one life we call our own.
But others are out there, we do not live alone.
What good is hate to all? What good is angers bite?
When all we do is fall, as mankind starts to fight.

One way there is to walk, a hard march for the heart,
If we could learn to talk, and not get torn apart.
If love’s banner waves high, above a hateful word.
Then peace we all can cry, and let that word be heard.
We bring ourselves to fight, for peace and love, as one.
Those words we can unite, and in our name, be done.

Nature’s Midsummer Music (poem)

Nature’s Midsummer Music

The Robin calls as sunrise begins,
Announcing that it is getting light.
Silence fades as every bird sings,
Their dawn chorus chases the night.

The Red Kite flies smoothly above,
Crying out as it watches below.
In the garden lands a Collard Dove,
Cooing as it walks to and fro.

The Swallows can be heard up high,
In the warmth of the afternoon.
Swiftly they zoom across the sky,
Singing out loud their high-pitch tune.

Sparrows are chattering in the tree,
Before they descend onto the ground.
Hopping all around the lawn to see,
What seeds and insects can be found.

The Nightingale calls as sunset nears,
The birds start to settle for the night.
But the Barn Owl hoots as it appears,
Opening its wings and taking flight.

Enjoying the sunshine (poem)

Enjoying the sunshine

There’s no rain in the forecast for the day ahead,
Sunshine greets you when you climb out of bed.
This day is your own, you can choose what to do,
And in this sunlight, the outdoors beacons you.

A chance to garden, putting in those new flowers,
Finding contentment and losing the hours.
The peacefulness found in a long country walk,
Meeting up with a friend and having a talk.

There’s the laughter of children playing outside,
Dashing around, finding somewhere to hide,
Before going with friends, down to the park,
On the swings and the slides, until it gets dark.

Then out comes the barbecue, there’s plenty to eat!
With friends coming around to join in with the treat.
Happiness shared with the food, all are well fed,
As the moon starts to rise, you retire to bed.

When views differ (poem)

When views differ

If I am me, and you are you,
And cannot see, my point of view.
Then this I’ll say, my view will win,
For in my way, I’m right within.

But you also, may be right,
So need to know, that in my sight,
We disagree, but also share,
A chance to see, a truce in there.

Let us agree, that from our view,
If you were me, and I was you,
We could seek where, this differ ends,
And then from there, we would be friends.

The day between (poem)

The day between

Yesterday has finished all that was left,
Tomorrow the plans will begin anew.
I cannot help but feel a little bereft,
In this emptiness caught between the two.

There is no preparation I can yet start,
There is no more that I can put away.
Nothing for me in which to take part,
Nor any chance of speeding up today.

Surrounded by an inner stillness,
I can only sit down and stare.
And yet, with a little willingness,
I can teach myself to become aware:

Of all those little things that I often miss,
The sounds and colours that surround me.
This day between, could become one of bliss,
To go and explore this world around me.

To take a walk and let time drift on by,
Between the sunrise and the sunset,
And see the beauty of the Earth and sky.
This day between, a day not to forget.

Only this moment is real (poem)

Only this moment is real

Only this moment is real, only in the now can we live,
Only this moment we can feel, only in the now can we give.
The pain may have carried through, the heartache may linger within,
But your life you can renew, a new journey you can begin.

Yesterday may have lost it way, tomorrow is just full of dreams,
But your heart lives in today, though that may not be what it seems.
Joy can be in your life again, Laughter can once more fill the air,
Even if, in stillness you remain, and uncertain of getting there.

Feel your heart beating within you, let it drift you into tomorrow,
For it knows there’s a better view, that you can leave behind the sorrow.
Let the wounds of the past heal, let the spirit within you thrive,
For only this moment is real, and in this moment we are alive.
