Between the Changes of Nature (poem)

Between the Changes of Nature

Between the rain and the sun, between the wet and the dry,
So the land is refreshed under a cloudy or clear sky.
Each change brings life to the plants and creatures living below,
Without one or the other, this green world we would not know.

Between winter and summer, nature begins to prepare,
Spreading out its leaves to welcome the warming sun up there.
Between spring and autumn, nature brings flowers for the bees,
Green leaves for the creatures grazing on the land and the trees.

Between summer and winter, nature produces its crop,
When animals gather their food, and fruit from the trees drop.
Between autumn and spring, nature retreats and shuts the door,
Abandoning autumn’s splendour until spring knocks once more.

Between the changes of nature, life on earth finds its way,
Bringing a promise of tomorrow, upon each new day.
All the seasons are needed, plus the changes in weather,
Between them, the wonders of life on earth come together.

The Mountain, Winter to Spring (poem)

The Mountain, Winter to Spring

Within the coldest winter, upon the mountain top lies the snow,
Around the rugged peaks and through the gullies, the wild winds blow.
Animals wrapped in winter coats of white, roaming around up there,
Artic foxes hunting for food, as snowy owls fly through the air.
With the arrival of spring, their white winter coats fade away,
The mountain’s winter white, replaced with springs shades of green, brown, and grey.

Pushing through the icy rocks, the mountain streams begin to flow,
The rain water and melting ice skate down, joining the stream below.
The stream dances over the rocks, cutting pathways through the landscape,
Smoothing out all the rough bits, as it’s rushes to make its escape.
Waterfalls appearing, when the mountain reveals its rocky side,
The young stream races over the edge, roaring loudly on its ride.

Down around the mountain’s skirt, its forest wakes up to greet the spring.
The birds return from faraway lands, as their mating songs they sing.
Animals seeking for food, under the forest bushes and trees,
The mountain streams become a river, heading towards far off seas.
Beyond the forest, the mountain slopes surrender to fields of green,
But high above at the mountain top, the white snow can still be seen.

Winter is beginning to unwrap spring (poem)

Winter is begining to unwrap spring

Winter is beginning to unwrap spring,
Releasing the joys of what spring will bring.
Winter’s snow drops have become spring flowers,
Winter’s blizzards have become spring showers.

Flowers start spreading around us once more,
In gardens, hedgerows, and the woodlands floor.
In the trees, the blossom comes out on show.
Along branches, tips of leaves start to grow.

Under the wrapping of winters cold hand,
Spring was just waiting to reclaim the land.
Winter had been sheltering spring within,
With the wrappings removed, spring can begin.

Reflection of puddles (poem)

Reflection of puddles

All those heavy rains have turned nature upon its head.
Some of the treetops can be seen pointing down instead.
Within the reflection of puddles, the world has changed,
The normalities of nature have been rearranged.

An upside-down world can now be seen upon the ground.
Upside-down people on their heads, strolling around.
Ripples from a breeze shaking those reflections about,
But once the breeze passes by, those ripples straighten out.

Reflections within puddles, the sky’s now far below,
Dazzling so brightly when the sun comes back on show.
The suns light bounces, shooting back up into a tree,
Branches usually in the shade, sunlight they now see.

Hills climb the other way, sloping left instead of right,
Upon reaching the puddles edge, vanishing from sight.
The drying of the puddle shrinks this upside-down scene.
The grass restored to where the upside-down world had been.

Leaves within a storm (poem)

Leaves within a storm

Within a gentle breeze, the leaves softly sway;
But beyond the breeze, there’s a storm on its way.
Slowly the breeze grows and the leaves start swinging;
A hint of the winds that the storm is bringing.

The storm soon arrives with its wild winds in toe,
Encouraging all the leaves to dance to and fro.
A few leaves break free, they start spinning in flight,
Skipping down the lane, fading out of sight.

The storm tosses some leaves out from that wild race,
Spiralling them down into a calmer place.
Sweeping them into heaps, resting together,
Into a sheltered spot, avoiding the weather.

Other leaves will ride out the storm, flying high,
Only touching land once the storm has passed by.
Settling down once more as the storm fades away,
Whilst above them on the trees, the leaves softly sway.

As the evening comes (poem)

As the evening comes

As the evening comes to bring the closing of the day,
Nature starts to settle down as the light fades away.
Another busy day is over, it’s time to rest,
As the sun slowly fades from sight, sinking in the west
The rabbits return to their barrows deep underground,
Just nibbled remains of grasses left scattered around.
The birds sing their final song as the dusk settles deep,
Settling on the bushes and trees to go to sleep.
The squirrels climb into their holes as the night descends,
For the creatures of the day, it’s now that their day ends.

As the evening comes to bring the starting of the night,
The creatures of the day have all disappeared from sight.
The world belongs to the moonlight and the stars up high.
The bats begin to wake up, spread out their wings and fly,
Sending out their echoes as they seek their food to eat.
The foxes start their hunting, so agile on their feet.
The hedgehogs are rummaging for insects in the lawn.
The owls go hunting silently from dusk until dawn.
Nature never knows stillness, only its cast gets changed.
As the evening comes, so nature just gets rearranged.

The scattering of sunlight (poem)

The scattering of sunlight

The scattering of sunlight dancing through the trees,
The flowers swaying to the sound of the buzzing bees.
Butterflies start dancing with the rising of the sun,
Their colours shining now that another day’s begun.
The birds sing their dawn chorus, greeting the suns new light,
The bees, the birds, the butterflies, to the skies take flight.

The scattering of sunlight spreading across the ground,
The rabbits start emerging to see what can be found.
The deers start wandering, nibbling the leaves and grass,
Taking sips of water from a stream they wander pass.
The otters on the riverbank race along its rim,
Then dive into its water, where they can play and swim

Where the wild birds fly (poem)

Where the wild birds fly

Where the wild birds fly,
High up in the sky,
With golden sunlight touching their wings.
From trees they will call,
Or upon the wall,
Where the blackbird and the robin sings.

Sitting in the trees,
A young blue tit sees,
Insects upon the branches to eat.
Landing on the ground,
Doves wander around,
In our gardens and along the street.

Into the sunlight,
The starlings take flight,
Murmuration’s moving through the skies.
Upon the dry sand,
The seagulls now land,
Across the bay you can hear their cries.

Sparrows give a show,
Hopping to and fro,
As they squabble for scraps on the floor.
So many birds,
Singing without words,
Songs to be cherished forever more.

The flowers say that spring is now here (poem)

The flowers say that spring is now here

Where has the spring gone? It should now be in view,
The crocuses are saying this is true.
The skies are still grey, they’re hiding the sun,
But the primroses tell me spring has begun.
The wind is howling upon this new day,
Within its cold breath, the daffodils sway.
The rain is still falling out of the skies,
But against all of this, the snowdrops rise.

The weather is dull, the cold is still near,
But the flowers say that spring is now here.
Up in the trees just bare branches are seen,
But look closer and their tips are now green.
All of these clues tell us spring is nearby,
It’s just being hidden by the grey sky.
Soon the sun will find a way to break through,
Then spring will arrive, it’s long overdue.

Woodland peacefulness (poem)

Woodland peacefulness

Peacefulness, calmness, there is nothing raging around,
Quietness within the woodland all around you, is found.
The busyness of your life can no longer be heard,
So nature steps in, bringing the singing of a bird.
A whisper comes traveling upon the passing breeze,
From the gently swaying of the branches in the trees.

Within this peaceful moment you have found in this day,
Let nature take all those stresses of your life away.
Let nature do all the work as it passes you by,
Whilst you watch it pushing the clouds across the sky.
Whilst you watch the rivers, their busy waters flowing,
See the riverbanks where the wildflowers are growing.

Nature will keep on working when you need time to rest,
Just let it wander on by, for it knows what is best.
Enjoy this moment, let go of life’s expectations.
Enjoy this moment, accept natures inspirations.
Walking through the woodland, take the peacefulness you find,
Keep it safe within when you leave the woodland behind.
