The bridge over the river (poem)

The bridge over the river

Under the bridge the river flows,
Next to where the old willow grows.
Upon its branch a robin sings,
A duck swims pass with her ducklings.
A swan glides by, calm and serene,
Beside her, two cygnets are seen.
Under the bridge they pass on through,
Off to seek their food somewhere new.
Upon a rock a toad sits there,
While fishes swim everywhere.

Over the bridge the people walk,
Up in the air flies a sparrowhawk.
Children stop on the bridge midway,
Deciding just where they should play.
Under the bridge from the hot sun,
They set up camp and have some fun.
Across the surface, stones they skim,
Before diving in for a swim.
At four o’clock, their games they pack,
Then over the bridge, they walk back.

A touch of winter sunshine (poem)

A touch of winter sunshine

A touch of winter sunshine,
On a cold and chilly day.
A moment of feeling fine,
Before the sun fades away.

A chance to see a clear sky,
Frost sparkling in the light.
Winter’s sun just passing by,
Before dragging back the night.

A moment of blue splendour,
So crisp, so bright, and so clear.
Winter’s world there to adore,
Before the dark night draws near.

A time of winter’s pleasure,
A freshness at winter’s noon.
A moment we can treasure.
Before the sun sets too soon.

A chance to refresh our lives,
Enjoy winter at its best.
Watch how the winter world thrives,
Before going home to rest.

A frosty early autumn dawn (poem)

A frosty early autumn dawn

The morning sun is rolling across the windowsill,
Nice and bright, but I can see outside there’s been a chill.
Frost has landed upon the lawn during this cold night,
Glistening in the early sun, autumns dawn delight.
Resting on the branches and decorating the wall,
Announcing on this dawn that autumn has come to call.

Putting on my old boots, I shall take a walk outside,
Just a gentle stroll, for it’s far too early to stride.
Leaving my footprints behind me as I wander pass,
The creatures of the night have left their own in the grass.
Upon a frosty branch a robin begins to sing,
The hibernators will soon be sleeping through to spring.

The leaves upon the trees glisten in the rising sun,
The change to their autumn shades has already begun.
This first frost will seal their fate, the trees will let them go,
Floating down to the ground, or to where the wind may blow.
The frost is now melting on this early autumn day,
Soon it will linger longer, now winters on its way.

Night of glory (poem)

Night of glory

A night of glory,
Each star tells a story,
Twinkling like diamonds in the night.
The sky’s crisp and clear,
Brings the starlight near,
The wonder of the universe in sight.

Bats take to the air,
Their insects are there,
An owl hoots as it prepares to take flight.
Hedgehogs start creeping,
Hunting, and foraging,
All the wonders to be found in the night.

Summer’s first hints of Autumn (poem)

Summer’s first hints of Autumn

Summer’s first hints of autumn are appearing,
There’s just a leaf or two dropping here and there.
Showing to us that autumn time is nearing,
It feels just a little cooler in the air.

The daytime is now slowly decreasing,
The sun is spending less time in the sky.
The night time is now slowly increasing,
With the evening stars once more seen up high.

Squirrels start to seek nuts for hibernating,
Racing around the branches of the trees.
Birds have started to think about migrating,
To warmer places over the land and seas.

Some summer flowers are fading from sight,
As their bright colours slowly disappear.
But others will wait for autumn’s first bite,
And keep going until the frost gets here.

Summers first hint of autumn is in the air,
As nature starts releasing summers warm glow.
A time for the world of nature to prepare,
For whatever the winter may put on show.

Daisies and Buttercups (poem)

Daisies and Buttercups

Daisies and buttercups, in the meadows grow,
Small sparkles of gold and white petals on show.
A splendid gathering of meadow flowers,
Swaying in a breeze, dancing in the showers.
Reaching up to the sun on a warm summers day,
The daisies close their eyes, when night is on its way.
The bees buzz around them, their nectar to collect,
The birds seek between them, for insects to detect.
A meadow of wonder, nature’s summer delight,
And on any country walk, a beautiful sight.

It’s Not Raining Yet (poem)

It’s Not Raining Yet

It’s not raining yet, even though the skies are dull and grey,
Clouds are filling every horizon, have they come to stay?
It’s starting to feel like this greyness will never fade away,
But should I let that hold me back from living my life today?

It’s not raining yet, and above those clouds the skies are blue,
And who knows, those grey clouds may yet fade away from view.
To disappear from my life, for they were just passing through,
So let’s start planning for something to go outside and do!

It’s not raining yet, so back out into the world I shall go,
I shouldn’t hide indoors just because the sun is not on show.
Even if it does rain a bit, it will help the plants to grow,
Whatever the weather, there’s a beautiful world out there to know.

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise (poem)

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise,
Climb up to where the eagle flies.
Release your hopes high into the air,
Watch them circle serenely up there.

Let tomorrow’s dreams call out to you,
Listen as the sunrise comes into view.
Watch as your hopes fly into your dreams,
Gliding effortlessly in dawns sunbeams.

Feel the breeze of change sweep gently past,
Bringing you some new dreams that will last.
Let dawns sun warm the spirit inside,
And upon those new dreams, take a ride.

The Royal Oak tree (poem)

The Royal Oak tree

The Royal Oak tree, over a hundred years old,
Planted by the queen, or so the story is told.
Not far from the crossroads, there it stands so proud,
There are times when its top gets lost in a cloud.

You can see it on the horizon from far away,
And under its branches, the children love to play,
Chasing each other around or having a singsong.
Throughout every season it stands there tall and strong.

In spring the old oak slowly begins to awake,
Showing tips of green from the leaves it’s starting to make.
In summer it cast its shadow far over the ground,
Where shelter from the hot summer sun can be found.

In autumn comes the soft shades of red, gold, and brown.
A royal elegance, a beautiful crown.
When winter arrives, its leaves fade and disappear,
As the old oak goes back to sleep for another year.

Early spring woodland walk (poem)

Early spring woodland walk

The morning is fresh and bright,
There’s hardly a cloud in sight,
In the woodland there’s just the gentleness of a breeze.
It’s the beginning of spring,
The birds cheerfully sing,
Perched upon the bushes and the branches of the trees.

There are snowdrops without snow,
And the daffodils are on show,
Their yellows and whites breaking through the woodland green.
Walking a bit further in,
You see the bluebells begin,
A carpet of purple everywhere to be seen.

In the breeze, the blossom’s bobbing,
Upon the branch there’s a robin,
Singing loudly, with its red breast proudly there to see.
The branches are now showing,
Green tips that will start growing,
Into the leaves that will fill the woodland’s canopy.

The hedgehogs have yet to wake,
The birds their nests yet to make,
As their courtship songs go twittering through the air.
There’s a couple of early bees,
Upon the blossom of the trees,
Telling you that in the woodland, spring is almost there.
