It’s Not Raining Yet (poem)

It’s Not Raining Yet

It’s not raining yet, even though the skies are dull and grey,
Clouds are filling every horizon, have they come to stay?
It’s starting to feel like this greyness will never fade away,
But should I let that hold me back from living my life today?

It’s not raining yet, and above those clouds the skies are blue,
And who knows, those grey clouds may yet fade away from view.
To disappear from my life, for they were just passing through,
So let’s start planning for something to go outside and do!

It’s not raining yet, so back out into the world I shall go,
I shouldn’t hide indoors just because the sun is not on show.
Even if it does rain a bit, it will help the plants to grow,
Whatever the weather, there’s a beautiful world out there to know.

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise (poem)

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise

Seek for the dream beyond the sunrise,
Climb up to where the eagle flies.
Release your hopes high into the air,
Watch them circle serenely up there.

Let tomorrow’s dreams call out to you,
Listen as the sunrise comes into view.
Watch as your hopes fly into your dreams,
Gliding effortlessly in dawns sunbeams.

Feel the breeze of change sweep gently past,
Bringing you some new dreams that will last.
Let dawns sun warm the spirit inside,
And upon those new dreams, take a ride.

The Royal Oak tree (poem)

The Royal Oak tree

The Royal Oak tree, over a hundred years old,
Planted by the queen, or so the story is told.
Not far from the crossroads, there it stands so proud,
There are times when its top gets lost in a cloud.

You can see it on the horizon from far away,
And under its branches, the children love to play,
Chasing each other around or having a singsong.
Throughout every season it stands there tall and strong.

In spring the old oak slowly begins to awake,
Showing tips of green from the leaves it’s starting to make.
In summer it cast its shadow far over the ground,
Where shelter from the hot summer sun can be found.

In autumn comes the soft shades of red, gold, and brown.
A royal elegance, a beautiful crown.
When winter arrives, its leaves fade and disappear,
As the old oak goes back to sleep for another year.

Early spring woodland walk (poem)

Early spring woodland walk

The morning is fresh and bright,
There’s hardly a cloud in sight,
In the woodland there’s just the gentleness of a breeze.
It’s the beginning of spring,
The birds cheerfully sing,
Perched upon the bushes and the branches of the trees.

There are snowdrops without snow,
And the daffodils are on show,
Their yellows and whites breaking through the woodland green.
Walking a bit further in,
You see the bluebells begin,
A carpet of purple everywhere to be seen.

In the breeze, the blossom’s bobbing,
Upon the branch there’s a robin,
Singing loudly, with its red breast proudly there to see.
The branches are now showing,
Green tips that will start growing,
Into the leaves that will fill the woodland’s canopy.

The hedgehogs have yet to wake,
The birds their nests yet to make,
As their courtship songs go twittering through the air.
There’s a couple of early bees,
Upon the blossom of the trees,
Telling you that in the woodland, spring is almost there.

Stretching of the light (poem)

Stretching of the light

There is just a fraction of warmth in the midday sun,
A hint of spring as the days begin to stretch their light.
On this sunrise, you can see winters work is not yet done,
From the deep frost that it laid down during the night.

This landscape of frost is glistening in the early dawn,
Winter is firmly in command at the start of this new day.
But from the white bells of the snowdrops, growing in the lawn,
Spring is letting us know that it is not too far away.

Upon the branches, tips of the first buds are appearing,
Hinting to winter that it’s time to pack its bags and go.
The stretching of the light tells us that spring is nearing,
And that soon the blossoms of the spring will be on show.

An Autumn Rose (poem)

An Autumn Rose

An autumn rose, such a sweet delight,
Blossoming as summer is fading from sight.
Its tender petals, defying the coldness,
Summer’s beauty living within its boldness.
In the autumn breeze, the rose gently sways,
A touch of colour for the darkening days.
Nature’s lost summer still there for us to see,
Beauty’s last glance before winter is set free.
It’s autumn splendour now fading for the year,
Until the spring, when the new buds will appear.

Late summer gardening (poem)

Late summer gardening

Summer’s nearly over, there’s a chill coming to the night,
I can see the garden flowers are not looking quite so bright.
It’s time to get some garden tools and take a look around,
Before the leaves start falling, moving summer to the ground.

There’s a tree that needs trimming, some branches are far too long,
But I’ll leave plenty, upon which the birds can sing their song.
The roses need cutting, their blossoms are fading away,
Although some still carry the scent of a fragrant summers day.

I can see some weeds need clearing from the corner flowerbed,
One rose I will leave alone, whilst its flowers shine bright red.
The bushes need clipping, removing a branch just here & there,
Oops, I’d better get started, or I’ll never get anywhere!

At last it’s all done! I will pick some blackberries to eat,
And go and take a well-earned rest upon the garden seat.
Then from all these cuttings, I will create a tidy heap,
To make a winter home, where the hedgehogs can go to sleep.

Nature’s summer wonders (poem)

Nature’s summer wonders

The sun rolls lazily across our summer sky,
The gardens are putting on their summer show.
Above them, the swifts and swallows are flying high,
While the butterflies dance upon the flowers below.

Roses burst open in colours of yellows, pinks and reds,
Their blooms sway gently from a passing summer breeze.
The Buddleias and the flowers in their flowerbeds,
Are surrendering their pollen to the passing bees.

In the woodlands, the animals are raising their young,
The trees providing the shelter and homes that they need.
Its canopy echoes to the songs the birds have sung,
Its spring blossom slowly changing to autumn seed.

A golden ball of summer sunshine (poem)

A golden ball of summer sunshine

golden ball of summer sunshine,
Balancing upon the land at dawn.
A promise that the weather is fine,
Just as a new day is being born.

The sunlight touches the tops of trees,
As it releases them from the night.
The dawn chorus sing their melodies,
As the birds welcome the summer light.

Rabbits emerging from underground,
Welcome the sunshine of this new day.
Nature is everywhere to be found,
As the sunshine sweeps the night away.

The Woodland in Spring (poem)

The Woodland in Spring

The crocuses and the snowdrops bring forth their colour,
Everywhere white, orange, and purple can be seen.
Bringing a brightness to the woodlands winter pallor,
Bringing to an end, winters shades of lonely green.

The daffodils reach up, unveiling their yellow glory,
Their heads nodding whenever a passing breeze is found.
Such a scattering of colours, showing nature’s spring story
Such is the beauty of wildflowers, growing all around.

On the branches, a touch of blossom’s starting to show,
The promise of new fruits upon the bushes and the trees.
Slowly their petals unfurl, and their flowers start to grow,
The promise of nectar for the butterflies and bees.

The hedgehogs appear and the birds begin their nesting,
The woodland’s preparing for all their young to arrive.
In spring, there is no time for nature to be resting,
For now that spring is here, the woodland has come alive.
