The First Ripples of Autumn (poem)

The First Ripples of Autumn

Summer is fading a little bit more each day,
As the ripples of autumn begin to spread near.
From the tips of leaves, the greens start fading away,
The reds and yellows of autumn start to appear.

The birds of summer are on their migration,
Heading for warmer lands, until winter departs.
Squirrels are gathering nuts for hibernation,
Preparing for their long sleep, once winter starts.

Autumn will begin to reach out its frosty hand,
Touching the edges of dawn, after a cold night.
A sparking whiteness covering all the land,
Within autumns first chillness, a beautiful sight.

Autumn colours are putting on their brightest show,
Upon a breeze, the leaves begin to tumble down.
The leaves of summer, scattered on the ground below,
Gaps of winter showing in autumns golden crown.

A short summer night storm (poem)

A short summer night storm

There is barely a cloud in the blue sky of this dawn,
Drops of rain left sitting on the grass tips of the lawn.
Last night’s storm leaving behind its own watery mark,
Abandoning its rain to form puddles in the dark.

A few small branches were blown off in its roaring fear,
But hardly more than twigs, they won’t take too long to clear.
Some flower heads are drooping, but no harm has been done,
They will soon recover with the coming of the sun.

The water is still dripping from the leaves of the tree,
A drop falls from leaf to leaf in its bid to break free.
Free to rejoin its fellows in those miniature lakes,
It landing site revealed from the ripples that it makes.

The garden begins to sparkle as the sun appears,
The roses are adorned with a splattering of tears.
The warmth from the sun will soon drink the puddles away,
Drying out the land for a beautiful summers’ day.

Nature gives to us this world (poem)

Nature gives to us this world

Nature brings the seasons, a changing world all around,
Where all animals roam and plants push up through the ground.
Nature has a rhythm, rotating through night and day,
When darkness comes, nature knows the dawn is on its way.
Winter turns to spring, the flowers awaken and rise,
Spring turns to summer, nature grows under warmer skies.
Summer turns to autumn, the willows begin to weep,
Autumn turns to winter, nature starts to go to sleep.

Nature brings the weather, calm days and violent storms,
Creating the landscape in all its different forms.
Creating rolling deserts, with its camels walking,
Or tropical rainforests, where tigers go stalking.
Near the poles, the polar bears and penguins raise their young,
All over the world the birds fly and their songs are sung.
From the rain on the mountains, the rivers start to flow,
Nature gives to us this world and all the life we know.

A Calm Summer Day (poem)

A Calm Summer Day

Airplanes are painting clouds across a summer sky,
Creating long white tails behind them as they fly.
Nature sits in stillness without a summer breeze,
A calmness across the Earth, touching all the trees.

Nothing wants to move on this windless summer day,
Even the grasses have forgotten how to sway.
The warmth of the sun spreads to where its light can’t go,
Creeping into the shadows where smaller plants grow.

The flying of the birds brings movement to the scene,
A swaying branch shows where a squirrel has just been.
Bees are collecting nectar in the flower beds,
Leaving behind a trail of bobbing flower heads.

The stillness of the weather, a calm summer day,
Reminds us that the world can let time drift away.
The busyness of nature, birds singing their song,
Reminds us that the world is never still for long.

Waiting for the robin to sing (poem)

Waiting for the robin to sing

Waiting for the robin to sing,
Announcing we have a new day.
With all the promise it can bring,
As the night is fading away.

The robin’s song breaks through the air,
Long before we can see the sun.
It knows that the new dawn is there,
That another day has begun.

Other birds hear his early call,
Their voices join in his dawn song.
The dawn chorus is sung by all,
As the robin sings out so strong.

Slowly the sky lightens the night,
Announcing that dawn’s almost here.
The sun will soon come into sight,
The robin sings out loud and clear.

Dawns herald has been clearly heard,
Another day on earth has begun.
Dawn started by one single bird,
The robin’s song greets the new sun.

Spring is pushing out winter (poem)

Spring is pushing out winter

Spring is pushing out winter as the leaves begin to show,
Blossom’s on the branches as spring flowers begin to grow.
Daisies and buttercups are appearing through the gasses,
The gaps of winter are fading with each day that passes.

The bees are seen once more as they buzz between the flowers,
The sun is getting warmer in between the spring showers.
Summer birds are returning, each day a few more are seen,
Back from the warmer lands, where for the winter they have been.

The hedgehogs appear as they waken from their winter sleep,
Across the farmers fields, lambs can be seen amongst the sheep.
Spring is pushing out winter from the bushes and the trees,
The gaps filling with leaves, swaying gently in the spring breeze.

The Moon is shining (poem)

The moon is shining

The moon is shining through the night,
Chasing the darkness with its light.
Racing the stars across the sky,
Joining with the bats flying high.
With the clouds, it plays hide and seek,
Changing its shape over the week.

The moon is shining on the lake,
Catching the gaps the ripples make.
When the winds’ bellows are out,
Its reflection bobs all about.
When there’s a stillness in the air,
A perfect reflection just sits there.

The moon is shining on the trees,
Dappling the leaves in the breeze.
Slipping through gaps, seeking the ground,
Patches of moonlight all around.
Sometimes the branches hold it back,
But somewhere it will find a crack.

The moon is shining where I stand,
Landing on the back of my hand.
Showering the world with its hues,
No reds or greens, just greys and blues.
In its light, a new world on show,
A world the sun will never know.

Autumns falling crown (poem)

Autumns falling crown

Autumns falling crown, leaves tumbling down.
A new covering for the ground below.
A gentle wind blows, another leaf goes,
Wrapped in shades of red, orange, and yellow.

The sway of a tree, sets some more leaves free,
Releasing summers glory to the sky.
Some glide through the air, others flutter there,
Some spin when a gust of wind passes by.

The trees release more, falling to the floor,
Until beneath our feet, the leaves all lay.
The trees surrender their autumn splendour,
Before the frosts of winter come their way.

The sun’s heading south for winter (poem)

The sun’s heading south for winter

The sun’s heading south for its winter break,
It’s crossing the equator about now.
Leaving the crops of summer in its wake,
As they disappear under autumns plough.

There’s now a slight chill in the air at dawn,
The curtains closing earlier each night.
There’s no sign yet of the frost on the lawn,
But it won’t be long until it’s in sight.

The window’s open for a while at noon,
As the sun throws back the last of its heat.
You can tell that autumn will be here soon,
But you are glad for that last summer treat.

Gardens are trimmed before winters cold breath.
Summers items packed away for the year.
Autumns landscape looks a little bereft,
With the hint that winter is getting near.

The sun leaves behind a land going bare.
But also leaves a promise as it goes.
For some green shoots of spring are hiding there,
Kept warm by the autumn leaves and hedgerows.

Nature knows the way, naturally (poem)

Nature knows the way, naturally

Let a rainbow be simply a rainbow,
Let it just bring colour into the sky.
Let all the stars twinkle and the moon glow,
Without having to know the reason why.

Let the butterfly spread out its wide wings,
As the caterpillar turns into one.
Let’s just enjoy all the beauty that it brings,
Without having to work out how it’s done.

Let the tides rise and fall upon the beach,
As the world rotates through night and day.
Let natures beauty be within our reach,
Without trying to guide it on its way.

Let the birds fly over the oceans wide,
Over the lands, knowing just where to go.
Let’s enjoy watching them from the bird hide,
Without understanding just how they know.

Let’s enjoy our natural world at its best,
Its seasons, the sunshine, the mountain view.
Let’s walk through the wonders of the forest,
Without trying to reason it all through.

In this world of ours, nature finds its way,
Without handbooks, everything still grows.
So let’s just enjoy what’s we see each day,
When it comes to what to do, nature knows.
