A country walk (poem)

A country walk

With a spring in the step, happiness in the heel,
The joy of the journey in your feet you now feel.
The hills lay before you, the dales in between,
And on the horizon great mountains are seen.

With the first gentle steps along the old track,
Your stress slides away, like a weight off your back.
Trees to your left and a brook to your right,
And when turning a corner, the birds take flight.

You stop for a rest to watch clouds drifting by,
And the skylarks and kestrels, high above fly.
A blue lake can be seen in the valley below,
Around you the bees and butterflies show.

A new view appears as you go round each bend,
As the sunset begins, so the journey must end.
Time for a rest, to relax and put up your feet,
Whilst the hedgehogs go seeking their supper to eat.

The glory of nature – Night (poem)

The glory of nature – night

Let the creatures of the night rise,
As the sun surrenders the day.
Let the bats take to those dark skies,
Seeking out insects for their prey.

Let the owls stretch out their wide wings,
As they silently take to flight.
Let us sleep as the nightingale sings,
Whose sweet song echos through the night.

Let the hedgehog uncurl once more,
Seeking out small insects to eat.
Let our gardens be there to explore,
Finding food by the garden seat.

Let the fox hunt without a sound,
It’s cubs playing in the forest.
Let the night creatures roam around,
Until dawn, when they go to rest.

The glory of nature – Sunset (poem)

The glory of nature – sunset

Let the red sky light up the west,
Arriving with the setting sun.
Let the Robin fly to its nest,
Now that all its singing is done.

Let all the flowers’ petals close,
Their nectar taken by the bees.
Let the sweet scent come from the rose,
Floating upon the evening breeze.

Let the deer settle in the forest,
The squirrel settles in its dray.
Let the butterflies come to rest,
Folding their rainbow wings away

Let the rabbits settle for the night,
Safe in their underground barrow.
Let daytime creatures fade from sight,
As they sleep until tomorrow.

The glory of nature – Noon (poem)

The glory of nature – Noon

Let the noon sun light up the day,
As the green leaves grow in its light.
Let the swifts and the swallows play,
Swirling in suits of black and white.

Let the squirrels race through the trees,
Searching for nuts that they can eat.
Let the tides pull upon the seas,
Engaging with the moons heartbeat.

Let the butterflies bring beauty,
With their colourful wings on show.
Let the bees buzz on the fruit tree,
Collecting nectar as they go.

Let the grass in the meadows sway,
As the noon breeze touch the flowers.
Let natures glory shine on this day,
Whether it be sunshine or showers.

The glory of nature – Dawn (poem)

The glory of nature – Dawn

Let nature rise up in glory,
With the coming of the new sun.
Let the birds sing out their story,
For natures day has now begun.

Let the dawn call upon the mist,
To begin this day in shadows.
Let the deer browse through the forest,
As the cows graze in their meadows.

Let the hedgehogs go off to sleep,
As their night of foraging ends.
Let the willow tree gently weep,
As the river flows round its bends.

Let all the creatures of the day,
Greet this new dawn, so fresh and bright.
Let nature find a better way,
Travelling from dawn until night.

Blue skies from Storm clouds (poem)

Blue skies from Storm clouds

There’s a touch of blue,
Coming into view,
Are those grey storm clouds departing at last?
There’s just a small zone,
Standing all alone,
Does it mean this storm is now in the past?

It’s slightly less dark,
It’s not quite so stark?
There’s another patch of blue I can see.
There’s a patchwork sky,
I can see up high,
From those storm clouds, the sky is breaking free.

There’s more blue than grey,
A brightening day,
Even the sun is now showing its face.
It is getting warm,
From this fading storm,
As the sun begins to dry up this place.

Now it is just blue,
With no clouds in view,
The storms but a memory in my mind.
The sun is on show,
So out I shall go,
To enjoy the freshness, it’s left behind.

The bridge over the river (poem)

The bridge over the river

Under the bridge the river flows,
Next to where the old willow grows.
Upon its branch a robin sings,
A duck swims pass with her ducklings.
A swan glides by, calm and serene,
Beside her, two cygnets are seen.
Under the bridge they pass on through,
Off to seek their food somewhere new.
Upon a rock a toad sits there,
While fishes swim everywhere.

Over the bridge the people walk,
Up in the air flies a sparrowhawk.
Children stop on the bridge midway,
Deciding just where they should play.
Under the bridge from the hot sun,
They set up camp and have some fun.
Across the surface, stones they skim,
Before diving in for a swim.
At four o’clock, their games they pack,
Then over the bridge, they walk back.

A touch of winter sunshine (poem)

A touch of winter sunshine

A touch of winter sunshine,
On a cold and chilly day.
A moment of feeling fine,
Before the sun fades away.

A chance to see a clear sky,
Frost sparkling in the light.
Winter’s sun just passing by,
Before dragging back the night.

A moment of blue splendour,
So crisp, so bright, and so clear.
Winter’s world there to adore,
Before the dark night draws near.

A time of winter’s pleasure,
A freshness at winter’s noon.
A moment we can treasure.
Before the sun sets too soon.

A chance to refresh our lives,
Enjoy winter at its best.
Watch how the winter world thrives,
Before going home to rest.

A frosty early autumn dawn (poem)

A frosty early autumn dawn

The morning sun is rolling across the windowsill,
Nice and bright, but I can see outside there’s been a chill.
Frost has landed upon the lawn during this cold night,
Glistening in the early sun, autumns dawn delight.
Resting on the branches and decorating the wall,
Announcing on this dawn that autumn has come to call.

Putting on my old boots, I shall take a walk outside,
Just a gentle stroll, for it’s far too early to stride.
Leaving my footprints behind me as I wander pass,
The creatures of the night have left their own in the grass.
Upon a frosty branch a robin begins to sing,
The hibernators will soon be sleeping through to spring.

The leaves upon the trees glisten in the rising sun,
The change to their autumn shades has already begun.
This first frost will seal their fate, the trees will let them go,
Floating down to the ground, or to where the wind may blow.
The frost is now melting on this early autumn day,
Soon it will linger longer, now winters on its way.

Daisies and Buttercups (poem)

Daisies and Buttercups

Daisies and buttercups, in the meadows grow,
Small sparkles of gold and white petals on show.
A splendid gathering of meadow flowers,
Swaying in a breeze, dancing in the showers.
Reaching up to the sun on a warm summers day,
The daisies close their eyes, when night is on its way.
The bees buzz around them, their nectar to collect,
The birds seek between them, for insects to detect.
A meadow of wonder, nature’s summer delight,
And on any country walk, a beautiful sight.
