A moment of happiness (poem)

A moment of happiness

A moment of happiness, a moment to smile,
A moment to let cheerfulness appear for a while.
A bright sunny morning, the birds greeting the dawn,
Brings a moment of joy as they land on the lawn.
A red sky above you, the birds return to their nest,
Brings a moment of calm as the sun goes for its rest.

A moment of fun, to let your laughter flow again,
Singing out loud on your own, or dancing in the rain.
A moment shared with friends, of playing games in the park,
Or that moment when you all lit candles in the dark.
A moment spent remembering the fun in your past,
Returns with happy memories that were made to last.

Any moment is precious, you have many inside,
All waiting for you to let them pop up outside.
Just look up at the stars or feel the wind in your hair,
Let your mind seize this moment and enjoy what’s there.
Even in darkness you can find a moment of light,
For within your heart, happiness is always in sight.

Late summer gardening (poem)

Late summer gardening

Summer’s nearly over, there’s a chill coming to the night,
I can see the garden flowers are not looking quite so bright.
It’s time to get some garden tools and take a look around,
Before the leaves start falling, moving summer to the ground.

There’s a tree that needs trimming, some branches are far too long,
But I’ll leave plenty, upon which the birds can sing their song.
The roses need cutting, their blossoms are fading away,
Although some still carry the scent of a fragrant summers day.

I can see some weeds need clearing from the corner flowerbed,
One rose I will leave alone, whilst its flowers shine bright red.
The bushes need clipping, removing a branch just here & there,
Oops, I’d better get started, or I’ll never get anywhere!

At last it’s all done! I will pick some blackberries to eat,
And go and take a well-earned rest upon the garden seat.
Then from all these cuttings, I will create a tidy heap,
To make a winter home, where the hedgehogs can go to sleep.

Which book should I read? (poem)

Late summer gardening

I’ve quite a lot of books, with shelves full of them on view,
So there must be one here just waiting to be read!
For even in old books, I’ll find something that is new,
And I have some spare time before I go to bed.

Do I fancy a challenge, all factual and true?
Or somewhere for my imagination to take flight?
Maybe spend some time learning about something new?
Although, I think my mind wants to slow down for the night.

Possibly this book, or maybe that one by the wall,
Oh dear! I am putting together quite a heap!
And now I’ve spent so much time looking through them all,
That I better put them back, for I’m falling asleep.
