Let today become our friend (poem)

Let today become our friend

Before tomorrow comes, let today become our friend,
Let’s make the most of it before it comes to an end.
There are many ways we can share our lives with today,
Whether it’s the familiar, or something new to play.
Whether it’s just one thing, or a day of many parts,
We can make the most of it before this day departs.

Just for today let’s tuck all those bad bits out of sight,
Turn away from the shadows and step into the light.
Let the breeze of today clear those cobwebs from our mind,
Watch old ideas tumble away, leaving space behind.
Let’s not fear those new ideas that are floating around,
Between their uncertainties, some good bits will be found.

Today’s an unknown, but it’s there for us to explore.
A chance to open up our mind, for us to learn more.
A chance to look into our lives, to find out what’s there,
A chance to see what else there is, in this world we share.
Let tomorrow find its own way, to come when it’s due,
For now let’s enjoy all that today brings into view.
