Kindness, the bedrock of humanity (poem)

Kindness, the bedrock of humanity

When Kindness gets lost amongst harsh words spoken today,
It has merely found a safe shelter where it can stay.
Within the patience of silence, kindness is living,
From within that shelter, kindness carries on giving.

Kindness has a strength that anger will never contain,
Beneath that dark storm of anger, kindness will remain.
For every storm must weaken, it’s words must run dry,
Whilst every act of kindness gives us strength to try.

Kindness is the bedrock of humanities strong heart,
Whenever a storm thunders in, it will soon depart.
Those rains of discord may tumble down, bringing us strife,
But the strength of kindness will bring back a better life.

So when life becomes muddy, with no peace anywhere,
Just dig into your heart, your kindness will be found there.
Sharing just a small piece of your kindness, makes it grow,
To join with others, bringing a better world to know.

The Strength of Peace (poem)

The Strength of Peace

Peace may be a whisper, barely even heard,
Maybe just appearing as a single word.
Lost amongst so many others flying around,
But somewhere within them, peace can still be found.
Somewhere amidst those harsh words being spoken,
Is that precious word of peace being woken

Peace may be lost for now, somewhere far behind,
Amongst those words of anger, it’s hard to find.
But still that word keeps appearing here and there,
Creeping gently over the edge of despair.
Moving away from those dark words that bring pain,
Nudging words of light into the world again.

Peace may be forgotten by all those who hate,
But within our hearts, peace has the strength to wait.
Those words of hate will end, burned by their own heat,
Then from those chards, peace will stand on its own feet.
Peace will march forward as it becomes a call,
For always, peace is the strongest word of all.

Stockroom Disorganiser (lighthearted poem)

Stockroom Disorganiser

The stockroom’s almost overflowing and needs a good sort out,
But I will need some guidance to help me move it all about.
I have been given the perfect schedule, laid out nice and neat.
My actions ordered for me, starting from the top of the sheet.
They should have been easy to follow, or so that’s what I thought,
But instead of calm simplicity, my confusion got caught.

I knew things may be moved more than once, to give me working space.
But as soon as I started, things already seemed out of place.
I had to fill up the brown box, except it wasn’t empty,
It said we should find nothing in there, but no! There was plenty.
Next it tried to tell me to move a box that wasn’t there,
No matter how hard I looked, the third shelf was completely bare.

I looked carefully around me, and everything seemed wrong,
According to my guidance sheets, things were not where they belong
I bump into some items that were sitting next to the door,
But I was sure that nothing was meant to be there on the floor.
I could see it stated clearly that that was how it should be,
So by now this perfect schedule, was making no sense to me.

Standing there in confusion, my suspicion started to grow,
A spreadsheet had been used, to work out what I needed to know.
They are so helpful, letting you order which column you choose,
That if you ordered the wrong one, then you were bound to lose.
What was step one, so I found out, should have been step twenty four,
Now that it’s correctly ordered, I will attempt it once more.

To be a Serious or Lighthearted person? (poem)

To be a Serious or Lighthearted person?

Must I become either serious or lighthearted?
Is it defined in me from the day my life started?
Can I decide which one as I travel on my way?
Or must I choose one, and throw the other one away?
Must I let the world tell me which of these I should be?
Accept that only one of those two can represent me?

Such difficult questions! Perhaps a little too deep.
If I only knew how, then both of them I would keep.
So am I looking at this from the wrong direction?
Maybe I do not need all of this deep reflection.
Life was never meant to be a choice of black and white,
But is full of colour, mixed in shades from dark to light.

I can just look at each moment as it comes along,
Judge whether to laugh, or to be serious and strong.
Allow myself to switch between them during my life,
Let a touch of humour help guide me through times of strife.
Which one to choose this day can depend on what I find,
And if I’m still not sure which, then I will just be kind.

Guide the young towards kindness (poem)

Guide the young towards kindness

Guide the young towards kindness, help them to find their way,
Give them your compassion as they stumble through a day.
Let them know that life is never as bad as it seems,
That through the darkest skies, they can still follow their dreams.

Teach the young that giving will help build a better life,
That the sharing of kindness, gets others through their strife.
That within that sharing, their own lives will start to grow,
And that the kindness of others, they will start to know.

Show the young how they can help the world around them thrive,
That with their thoughtfulness, they can help others survive.
That with their kindness and support, the wounds they can mend,
And with their acts of kindness, turn strangers into friends.

Tell the young how kindness will always find a way through,
That In the darkest times, kindness brings a brighter view.
That darkness will fade and a better world they will find,
That when they have no idea what to do, just be kind.

Let peace find a way (poem)

Let peace find a way

Let peace find a way when anger rages all around.
In amongst all the confusion, let calmness be found.
When chaos takes control, keep your own order within,
Banish those shards of anger, let the healing begin.

Let peace find a way through the turmoil and the sorrow.
Anger has no place in the world of our tomorrow.
When no path can be seen that would take anger away,
Then within your own life, let your calmness guide your way.

Let peace find a way on whatever road that you take.
Peace can always find a way in the choices we make.
Fighting anger with anger will just help it to grow.
If we let peace in, then a better world we will know.

A day out with friends (poem)

A day out with friends

At last the day has arrived, a chance to have some fun.
Spending time with friends, exploring under a bright sun.
Visiting places, seeing what there is to be found,
There is that castle that we all want to look around.
Afterwards let’s visit the lake next to the forest,
Maybe walk alongside and find a place we can rest.
I will bring along a picnic for us all to share,
Who knows we may see some deer; I know they live in there.
There is that museum, with new pictures on display,
Then find a place for a meal to end this special day.

Forgive and let go (poem)

Forgive and let go

Forgive and let go, do not hold onto angers grip,
From the cup of forgiveness, offer others a sip.
In the battle of confusion let forgiveness win,
Call a truce to hating and let forgiveness begin.

The wounds may go deep, festering over many years,
Between all of us we have all shed too many tears.
But within us we can find a better tomorrow,
A world of forgiveness that can banish that sorrow.

Forgiveness can begin with all the things you have done,
Don’t be hard on yourself when forgiveness never won.
Just because you were unable to forgive yesterday,
Does not mean you can’t let forgiveness now find a way.

Let go off your own anger, toss it out from your heart,
Let forgiveness enter in, it’s a good place to start.
Forgiveness does not mean surrendering who you are,
But beginning a new life where peace can travel far.

Nature gives to us this world (poem)

Nature gives to us this world

Nature brings the seasons, a changing world all around,
Where all animals roam and plants push up through the ground.
Nature has a rhythm, rotating through night and day,
When darkness comes, nature knows the dawn is on its way.
Winter turns to spring, the flowers awaken and rise,
Spring turns to summer, nature grows under warmer skies.
Summer turns to autumn, the willows begin to weep,
Autumn turns to winter, nature starts to go to sleep.

Nature brings the weather, calm days and violent storms,
Creating the landscape in all its different forms.
Creating rolling deserts, with its camels walking,
Or tropical rainforests, where tigers go stalking.
Near the poles, the polar bears and penguins raise their young,
All over the world the birds fly and their songs are sung.
From the rain on the mountains, the rivers start to flow,
Nature gives to us this world and all the life we know.

Just what is this world coming too? (poem)

Just what is this world coming too?

Just what is this world coming too?
Just where is it going today?
What are we all trying to do?
Does anyone here know the way?

I woke up confused this morning,
Unsure of the person to be.
As I stood stretching and yawning,
I looked at the world around me.

Everything there is changing,
It’s not the world I use to know.
There is too much rearranging,
A different world’s now on show.

What can I do to improve things?
Can I bring this all to a stop?
Keep a world where the robin sings,
And where the bunnies can still hop.

Standing here in deep reflection,
I look around at what I’ve got,
What can help from my selection,
And the answer is ‘not a lot’.

So, what around me can I move?
What here can help me to begin?
I realised that to improve,
The changes must start from within.

Step by step I’ll change how I live,
Or at least not do any harm.
Where there’s hate, learn to forgive,
Where there’s anger, learn to stay calm.

To make this world a better place,
Each of us can play a small part.
Each of us can show a kind face,
And bring love back into our heart.
