To be a Serious or Lighthearted person?
Must I become either serious or lighthearted?
Is it defined in me from the day my life started?
Can I decide which one as I travel on my way?
Or must I choose one, and throw the other one away?
Must I let the world tell me which of these I should be?
Accept that only one of those two can represent me?
Such difficult questions! Perhaps a little too deep.
If I only knew how, then both of them I would keep.
So am I looking at this from the wrong direction?
Maybe I do not need all of this deep reflection.
Life was never meant to be a choice of black and white,
But is full of colour, mixed in shades from dark to light.
I can just look at each moment as it comes along,
Judge whether to laugh, or to be serious and strong.
Allow myself to switch between them during my life,
Let a touch of humour help guide me through times of strife.
Which one to choose this day can depend on what I find,
And if I’m still not sure which, then I will just be kind.
