There is no need to apologise, my friend (poem)

There is no need to apologise, my friend

There is no need to apologise, I do understand
Just take the time you need, perhaps I can lend a hand.
You have helped me so many times before when in need,
Now it is my time for me to return the good deed.
If you just need some time to rest for a little while,
Then just let me know when you are ready for a smile.
If you are feeling unwell, is there something I can do?
Just say if you need anything sorted out for you.
For now, just do what it is that you need to this day,
Remember I am there if you need me in some way.

The splinters of yesterday (poem)

The splinters of yesterday

Passing through splinters, the creations of yesterday,
After the explosion that tossed them all around.
Those fragments of your past, around you they spin and sway,
Swirling close to you as they fall slowly to the ground.

It’s a dramatic ending to that life you once knew,
Those splinters can be painful as they go swirling by.
But as they spread, a new world’s coming into view.
Thinning out, they bring to you glimpses of a new sky.

Slowly the view changes, a new life is appearing,
Although some splinters lay there buried within your heart.
But each day’s improving and the pain’s disappearing,
And over time all those splinters will fade and depart.

The joys of tomorrow lie within this spinning cloud,
Those splinters were part of yesterday agony.
But the splinters will fall, like the releasing of a shroud,
They cannot linger within your life’s new destiny.

Time will sweep them away, taking all their pain and strife.
The breeze of new hope will leave the space around you clean.
Leaving a better view, revealing a better life,
Towards tomorrow, only clear skies can now be seen.

I have found a new day! (poem)

I have found a new day!

I have found a new day! It was just waiting there for me,
All I had to do was wake up, and there it was to see.
I know I found one yesterday, but that is in my past,
Between now and tonight, this new day is going to last.
All fresh and new, ready for me to go out and explore,
It is a different day to the one that went before.

So how shall I begin this day? Should I become grumpy?
Talking with a growl and making everyone jumpy.
No! this new day is not meant for that, it is all brand new,
Why waste it with a frown before it has come into view.
Why ruin what could become a day where my life has fun,
Why put a black mark on something that has barely begun.

I could go around laughing, but just what would others think?
That maybe I’m going crazy and need to see a shrink!
That maybe I enjoyed drinking one too many, last night.
No! that is not who I will be, when I come into sight.
Let them all see someone who is sober when I go out,
I do not want to be stared at when I’m walking about.

So, I shall start this day in neutral, neither fast nor slow,
And reflect for a short while on how I want it to go.
Perhaps I will just let it roll in and see what is there.
What happened to me yesterday, this day is unaware.
Today’s a chance to leave yesterdays’ problems far behind,
Let’s just get up and see what, in this new day, I will find.

There is always tomorrow (poem)

There is always tomorrow

There is always tomorrow, for time never stands still,
If today cannot find a way, then tomorrow will.
If today’s going nowhere and your past cannot guide,
Tomorrow brings a light from which today cannot hide.
It may seem very dim and almost out of your sight,
Just hold onto hope, for tomorrow carries its light.
Just look to the future, it begins every day,
Within every tomorrow there will be a way.
Let tomorrow’s hope guide you, when life’s going nowhere,
Just look into your heart, tomorrows light shines in there.

Where the wild birds fly (poem)

Where the wild birds fly

Where the wild birds fly,
High up in the sky,
With golden sunlight touching their wings.
From trees they will call,
Or upon the wall,
Where the blackbird and the robin sings.

Sitting in the trees,
A young blue tit sees,
Insects upon the branches to eat.
Landing on the ground,
Doves wander around,
In our gardens and along the street.

Into the sunlight,
The starlings take flight,
Murmuration’s moving through the skies.
Upon the dry sand,
The seagulls now land,
Across the bay you can hear their cries.

Sparrows give a show,
Hopping to and fro,
As they squabble for scraps on the floor.
So many birds,
Singing without words,
Songs to be cherished forever more.

Life’s a journey, not a destination (poem)

Life’s a journey, not a destination

Today, I find myself walking along a busy street,
People rushing pass me, there’s just the sound of tapping feet.
I find myself wondering just what is this all about,
Must we hurry everywhere whenever we go out?
Is my destination really all that matters today?
Must we hurry along and push the rest of life away?
When did our journeys become just a place we have to go?
All the travelling in between gives no time to go slow.

I am standing here coming to a realisation,
That our lives are a journey and not a destination.
A famous quote that I have heard so many times before,
Yet in this modern life of ours, one we choose to ignore.
We push ourselves from dawn to dusk as each day passes by,
Just trying to slow down a bit could be worth a try.
Taking a pause now and then, a rest from life’s busy race,
Deliberately choosing to go at a much slower pace.

So now let’s see what happens if I begin to stand still,
Will my life roll up on me, and disappear down a hill?
Will the world carry on its own way, leaving me behind?
But when I look around, an unchanged world is what I find.
Oh, there are times when I must rush from point A to point B,
But there are just as many times when I can wander free.
Let’s just forget my speed to destination for this day,
Enjoy my life’s journey, and look around along the way.

You can still be kind when… (poem)

You can still be kind when…

You can still be kind when others are not,
Bringing your kindness when they have forgot.
Bringing your gentleness when times are hard,
Helping them to heal when they have been scarred.

You can still be kind when others hold back,
Replacing within them what they now lack.
Replacing their emptiness with new hope,
Helping them to realise they can cope.

You can still be kind when their world turns grey,
Letting them see that your kindness will stay.
Letting them see that life is worth living,
Helping them to find hope in your giving.

You can still be kind when it’s hard to do,
For your kindness will help to see you through.
For your kindness will mend you from within,
Helping you to know your kindness will win.

Awakening of tomorrow (poem)

Awakening of tomorrow

The awakening of tomorrow,
The future opens its sleepy eyes,
Turns it back on yesterday’s sorrow,
In the dawn of new hope, it will rise.

A fresh beginning is waiting there,
As the past troubles get left behind.
Scenes of the future it wants to share,
Bringing glimpses of what’s there to find.

There’s a new path waiting to explore,
You can see new hope striding that way.
Bringing the promise of so much more,
Bringing the joy of a better day.

Let this awakening enter in,
Trust the path laying before you.
Trust that it knows where you should begin.
That it will lead to a better view.

The flowers say that spring is now here (poem)

The flowers say that spring is now here

Where has the spring gone? It should now be in view,
The crocuses are saying this is true.
The skies are still grey, they’re hiding the sun,
But the primroses tell me spring has begun.
The wind is howling upon this new day,
Within its cold breath, the daffodils sway.
The rain is still falling out of the skies,
But against all of this, the snowdrops rise.

The weather is dull, the cold is still near,
But the flowers say that spring is now here.
Up in the trees just bare branches are seen,
But look closer and their tips are now green.
All of these clues tell us spring is nearby,
It’s just being hidden by the grey sky.
Soon the sun will find a way to break through,
Then spring will arrive, it’s long overdue.

Seesaw of life (poem)

Seesaw of life

You are on the way up as I am on the way down,
You are finding a smile as I am finding a frown.
For you just now, everything’s becoming clearer,
For me just now, that cold darkness is getting nearer.

On the seesaw of life, tomorrow it could all change.
When the life we call our own, begins to rearrange.
You could find yourself sinking a little, without choice,
Or raising up to find once more, you have a clear voice.

The seesaw of life can alter the world that we know,
The seesaw may move very fast, or go very slow.
It could be quite fun as the seesaw changes its place,
Or bring a sense of dread at what you now have to face.

Whichever way the seesaw is taking you this day,
Tomorrow it could end up going the other way.
Life has its ups and downs, that’s true for everyone,
What matters the most is that we all learn to have fun.
