About Jenny Maryl

Poetry, creative & imaginative thinking.

You can still be kind when… (poem)

You can still be kind when…

You can still be kind when others are not,
Bringing your kindness when they have forgot.
Bringing your gentleness when times are hard,
Helping them to heal when they have been scarred.

You can still be kind when others hold back,
Replacing within them what they now lack.
Replacing their emptiness with new hope,
Helping them to realise they can cope.

You can still be kind when their world turns grey,
Letting them see that your kindness will stay.
Letting them see that life is worth living,
Helping them to find hope in your giving.

You can still be kind when it’s hard to do,
For your kindness will help to see you through.
For your kindness will mend you from within,
Helping you to know your kindness will win.

Awakening of tomorrow (poem)

Awakening of tomorrow

The awakening of tomorrow,
The future opens its sleepy eyes,
Turns it back on yesterday’s sorrow,
In the dawn of new hope, it will rise.

A fresh beginning is waiting there,
As the past troubles get left behind.
Scenes of the future it wants to share,
Bringing glimpses of what’s there to find.

There’s a new path waiting to explore,
You can see new hope striding that way.
Bringing the promise of so much more,
Bringing the joy of a better day.

Let this awakening enter in,
Trust the path laying before you.
Trust that it knows where you should begin.
That it will lead to a better view.

The flowers say that spring is now here (poem)

The flowers say that spring is now here

Where has the spring gone? It should now be in view,
The crocuses are saying this is true.
The skies are still grey, they’re hiding the sun,
But the primroses tell me spring has begun.
The wind is howling upon this new day,
Within its cold breath, the daffodils sway.
The rain is still falling out of the skies,
But against all of this, the snowdrops rise.

The weather is dull, the cold is still near,
But the flowers say that spring is now here.
Up in the trees just bare branches are seen,
But look closer and their tips are now green.
All of these clues tell us spring is nearby,
It’s just being hidden by the grey sky.
Soon the sun will find a way to break through,
Then spring will arrive, it’s long overdue.

Seesaw of life (poem)

Seesaw of life

You are on the way up as I am on the way down,
You are finding a smile as I am finding a frown.
For you just now, everything’s becoming clearer,
For me just now, that cold darkness is getting nearer.

On the seesaw of life, tomorrow it could all change.
When the life we call our own, begins to rearrange.
You could find yourself sinking a little, without choice,
Or raising up to find once more, you have a clear voice.

The seesaw of life can alter the world that we know,
The seesaw may move very fast, or go very slow.
It could be quite fun as the seesaw changes its place,
Or bring a sense of dread at what you now have to face.

Whichever way the seesaw is taking you this day,
Tomorrow it could end up going the other way.
Life has its ups and downs, that’s true for everyone,
What matters the most is that we all learn to have fun.

Leave you sadness on the doorstep (poem)

Leave your sadness on the doorstep

Leave your sadness on the doorstep, please come in and take a seat,
Take off that coat of pain you wear, then please put up your feet.
It may not be easy for you to leave those bits behind,
Just leave what you can, then let’s see if we can clear your mind.

Let’s see if we can find a way to set your inner self free,
Starting with that traditional cup of coffee or tea.
I know I have some nice treats, I will sort us out a few,
Then you can start to tell me what it is that’s upsetting you

I will sit and listen to any words that you want to say,
Get them all of your chest and I will sweep the bad ones away.
If you want me to speak my thoughts, then give me a little space,
Between us, let’s see if we can bring a smile back to your face.

Please say as much as you want, but you don’t have to tell me all,
Let’s just see if we can get that heavy gloom on you to fall.
Leave any of your emotions discarded here on my floor,
When you go, leave behind your sadness on that step by the door.

The Beginning of Kindness (poem)

The beginning of kindness

The beginning of kindness, learning how to forgive,
Discovering that there are better ways you can live.
Discovering that you don’t have to let anger win,
That within your own heart is where kindness can begin.
That within this world around you, kindness can be found,
You will find it somewhere, once you start looking around.

The beginning of kindness could be a single word,
A word of encouragement that from you, can be heard.
Or if that is too hard, then begin with just a smile,
Both of them will give kindness to others for a while.
Both of them send out goodwill to anyone you meet,
Even to a passing stranger you meet on a street.

The beginning of kindness can bring an end to fear,
Instead of holding back, you can let people draw near.
When the world gets too tough for them, when nothing seems fair,
You can help them to know that kindness is found out there,
Any kindness that you give will never fade away,
The more kindness you share, the more your kindness will stay.

Woodland peacefulness (poem)

Woodland peacefulness

Peacefulness, calmness, there is nothing raging around,
Quietness within the woodland all around you, is found.
The busyness of your life can no longer be heard,
So nature steps in, bringing the singing of a bird.
A whisper comes traveling upon the passing breeze,
From the gently swaying of the branches in the trees.

Within this peaceful moment you have found in this day,
Let nature take all those stresses of your life away.
Let nature do all the work as it passes you by,
Whilst you watch it pushing the clouds across the sky.
Whilst you watch the rivers, their busy waters flowing,
See the riverbanks where the wildflowers are growing.

Nature will keep on working when you need time to rest,
Just let it wander on by, for it knows what is best.
Enjoy this moment, let go of life’s expectations.
Enjoy this moment, accept natures inspirations.
Walking through the woodland, take the peacefulness you find,
Keep it safe within when you leave the woodland behind.

The New Year is coming (poem)

The New Year is coming

The New Year is coming whilst the old gets ready to depart,
The past is packed away as the year’s preparing to restart.
All that has happened in this year will soon become history,
All that is coming with the new year is for now, a mystery.

This year has had its ups and downs, many changes it has seen,
Next year will step into the footprints of where this year has been.
From the moment the New Year’s born, its own future it will find,
Striding off into the new, leaving those old footprints behind.

As we pause in this moment between the old year and the new,
Take a chance to look back at this past year, give it your review.
Just what from this year do you want to keep? Let those bits stay.
Just what from this year do you want to discard? Toss them away.

This New Year brings fresh hope to us, a chance to set our dreams free,
A chance to rearrange who we are and who we want to be.
What traits you take into the New Year, let them be who you are,
Whatever dreams you decide upon, may they carry you far.

Christmas Eve, that last minute dash (poem)

Christmas Eve, that last minute dash

Christmas Eve is here, time for that last minute dash,
I must remember to pick up that extra cash.
There’s a present that I forget to get last week,
So, to the shopping centre I must go and seek.

There must be a party happening somewhere,
Someone dressed as an elf is sitting on a chair.
I see no Santa as the elf sips some coffee,
But two dressed as reindeer are munching some toffee.

Santa’s grotto has come into sight, with his sleigh,
The children are trying to drag their parents that way.
He has his own elves dressed in red and green,
And beside his sleigh, sack of presents can be seen.

The shoppers are many, the clear spaces are few,
But the shop that I want has now come into view.
Some shouting within it has just begun,
Two people want a present, of which there’s just one.

At last, I have reached it, they still have it in store!
But the queue for the till is heading out the door.
An hour later I am leaving the shops far behind,
Christmas Day tomorrow, that present they will find.

Let the spirit of Christmas enter within (poem)

Let the spirit of Christmas enter within

Let the spirit of Christmas enter within,
Let the joy and happiness inside begin.
Let it touch your heart upon this day,
Let its smiles and laughter guide your way.
Let it bring a spark of fun into your life,
Let it allow you to be released from strife.

The spirit of Christmas comes every year,
Bringing into our life good tidings and cheer.
A chance to relax in your life for a while,
A chance to replace those frowns with a smile.
A chance to let your goodness open its door,
A chance to let your kindness reach out once more.

Christmas is a time for giving and sharing,
Within your life, to be loving and caring.
Let kindness to others come with this season,
It’s not hard to do, you don’t need a reason.
Bring peace into your world then share it around,
Somewhere within you, those feelings will be found.
