The Last Page (poem)

The last page

I have just reached the last page! What will I now find?
Will it make sense to me, the words placed in my mind?
Will it bring to completion all that went before?
Or will it leave me wishing that there was some more?

If it is a story, will I like what I read?
Will I discover that the good side did succeed?
Will it leave me sad, learning that the good side failed?
Or maybe off into the sunset, they all sailed.

If it is factual, what will I now understand?
Am I holding the solution here in my hand?
Will I know what to do next, if I am to win,
Or will I still not know just where I should begin?

If it is a hobby, something I like to do,
Will it inspire me, maybe I’ll learn something new?
Will it add to my enjoyment, bring me a smile?
Or will I find that reading it was not worthwhile?

If it is casual, will I like what it’s about?
Will I enjoy glancing through and what I find out?
Will it make me want to go and discover more,
Or just dump it back onto the shelf by the door?

A book’s last page always carry its own secret,
And we never know what emotion we will get.
All I know is that I will read it to the end,
With a good chance that it will become a new friend.

Guide the young towards kindness (poem)

Guide the young towards kindness

Guide the young towards kindness, help them to find their way,
Give them your compassion as they stumble through a day.
Let them know that life is never as bad as it seems,
That through the darkest skies, they can still follow their dreams.

Teach the young that giving will help build a better life,
That the sharing of kindness, gets others through their strife.
That within that sharing, their own lives will start to grow,
And that the kindness of others, they will start to know.

Show the young how they can help the world around them thrive,
That with their thoughtfulness, they can help others survive.
That with their kindness and support, the wounds they can mend,
And with their acts of kindness, turn strangers into friends.

Tell the young how kindness will always find a way through,
That In the darkest times, kindness brings a brighter view.
That darkness will fade and a better world they will find,
That when they have no idea what to do, just be kind.

Taking that first step (poem)

Taking that first step

I must take that first step, if I am to take the last.
I must face the future, if I am to leave the past.
Nothing will ever change if I just stay standing still,
I must take a step, if my dreams I am to fulfil.
In my life, so many first steps I have had to take,
Some have come easily, others have been hard to make.
When one path comes to an end, another will begin.
Only by taking that first step will I ever win.

I must take that first step, if I am to find a way.
I must face tomorrow, if I am to leave today.
That first step taken, will start guiding me to the new,
I may not know where, but it will bring a change of view.
In my life I have learnt that everything changes,
Yesterday’s certainties, tomorrow rearranges.
So when my life presents a new path to get to know,
I set one foot down in front of me, then off I go.

By taking that first step, I will walk toward the last.
By facing the future, I will leave behind the past…

Hugs given and received (poem)

Hugs given and received

I need a hug, it doesn’t have to be for too long,
I just need it to help me to once again feel strong.
I wouldn’t have asked, but it has been such a bad day,
And I just need a little help to chase it away.

A hug can do so much in the short time that it takes,
To the person receiving it, what a change it makes!
A hug will help them to know that there is someone there,
That in this harsh world, your time you are willing to share.

A hug helps them to forget about life for a while,
To release the tension, and replace it with a smile.
Giving them a moment totally free from their strife,
Giving them the strength they need to move on with their life.

So if you can spare a hug for a moment or two,
It will help someone stuck in a dark place, to get through.
The power of a hug can lift the lonely up high,
Even if it was just by chance you were passing by.

Harmony is the answer (poem)

Harmony is the answer

Harmony is the answer when today gets ripped apart,
From those scattered fragments, there’s a new world waiting to start.
Within all of those pieces, the good bits can still be found,
A chance to scoop them up and leave the bad bits on the ground.

Harmony is the answer to confusions painful spin,
Slowing our lives down, giving a chance for peace to begin.
Seek out those fragments of kindness, use them to line your life,
Then toss in pieces of hope, to ease you through times of strife.

Harmony is the answer when tomorrow’s lost its sight,
Reaching beyond the darkness, using peace to find the light.
Pick up those scattered dreams, set them straight once more,
Dust the damage off them, then back into your heart, restore.

So if harmony is the answer, how can it be shared?
Bring together the pieces that showed how this world once cared.
Mix it all together with the love found within your heart,
Then spread it around, let everyone receive a part.

Let love and harmony bring all of our dreams together,
Use peace and kindness to guide them through the stormy weather.
Discard all of the bad fragments that fell out of the pain,
Let us build a better world with the fragments that remain.

Anger is not the answer (poem)

Anger is not the answer

Anger is not the answer, no solution can it find,
Nothing good can grow from the tattered words it leaves behind.
Nothing can get better when words of anger are in flight,
Obscuring the present, robbing the future of its sight.

Anger is not the answer, don’t let it be your envoy,
It does not know how to mend, but only how to destroy.
It flings harmony to one side, leaves chaos in its wake,
All the love, peace, joy, and kindness within you, it will take.

Anger is not the answer, so don’t let it win today,
If it comes close to you, step back and let it go its way.
Anger can never put right any wrongs that there may be,
It only makes things worse, with solutions harder to see.

So if anger is not the answer, what can take its place?
Try taking a step or two back, and slowing down the pace.
Look at the bigger picture, let understanding begin,
Toss anger out the door and welcome compromising in.

Let love and harmony guide you through angers tangled maze,
Hold on to peace and kindness, as you move through the haze.
It may be a struggle when anger’s darkness brings its strife,
But the light of love is stronger, let it shine through your life.

Winter is beginning to unwrap spring (poem)

Winter is begining to unwrap spring

Winter is beginning to unwrap spring,
Releasing the joys of what spring will bring.
Winter’s snow drops have become spring flowers,
Winter’s blizzards have become spring showers.

Flowers start spreading around us once more,
In gardens, hedgerows, and the woodlands floor.
In the trees, the blossom comes out on show.
Along branches, tips of leaves start to grow.

Under the wrapping of winters cold hand,
Spring was just waiting to reclaim the land.
Winter had been sheltering spring within,
With the wrappings removed, spring can begin.

If happiness stood before me (poem)

If happiness stood before me

If happiness stood before me, all sparkling and bright.
If sadness faded behind me, disappearing from sight.
If this moment that I stood in, would let me drop my load,
I would pick up happiness and take it upon life’s road.

But what does happiness look like? How would I ever know?
What shape and size does it take, when it comes out on show?
Would the happiness that I see, look just the same to you?
Or does your happiness arrive with a different view?

I need not ask those questions, for my life has shown to me,
That happiness takes many forms, all different to see.
That happiness can race in, taking you off for a ride,
Or drift into your day, staying contently by your side.

If happiness stands before you, then greet it with a smile.
Welcome its company, let it make your life feel worthwhile.
When it starts to fade, don’t be afraid to let it depart.
For very soon, a new path to happiness will start.

Happiness is a way of thinking that you find within,
If you learn to master it, then your happiness will win.
Let those memories of happiness light up your life today,
Then through those darkest of times, happiness will find a way.

Allow yourself to begin anew (poem)

Allow yourself to begin anew

Allow yourself to begin anew,
Shake off that outdated point of view,
And pluck out those bits that brought to you, only sorrow.

Sweep away those old ideas, like dust,
Clean those dreams that have started to rust.
Open up some space to welcome a new tomorrow.

Let yourself go at a slower pace,
Remembering life is not a race,
That tomorrow will find its own way to where you are.

Pause now and then, reflect for a while,
Remembering what once made you smile,
Find a place where with your memories, you can see far.

What tomorrow brings, you may not know,
But with yesterday, just let it go,
Watch it walk away with the weight of yesterday’s load.

Allow yourself to begin anew,
Prepare yourself for a new life view,
With a light heart, start walking along tomorrow’s road.

Let the celebrations start (poem)

Let the celebrations start

Let the celebrations start,
Let the joy into your heart.
The time has come to relax and have fun.
Whatever is the reason,
Let this become the season,
Where your joy is shared with everyone.

Release the love from within,
Let the happiness begin,
Let your goodness and kindness lead the way.
Whether a stranger or friend,
Your good tidings, you can send,
Share a smile with all those you meet today.

If someone is looking sad,
Of your joy, they may be glad,
Release some of the joy within you now.
Stretch out a hand in friendship,
Of your welcome, let them sip,
If they cannot smile, help them to learn how.

Let us dance around the floor,
Until we can dance no more,
Then sit and laugh at all fun we have found.
Take these good moments and share,
With the others who are there,
Let your happiness be spread all around.

When you have worn yourself out,
From the joy floating about,
Tuck all of those good memories away.
When real life is back again,
Those memories will remain,
There to be enjoyed on a rainy day.
