The First Ripples of Autumn (poem)

The First Ripples of Autumn

Summer is fading a little bit more each day,
As the ripples of autumn begin to spread near.
From the tips of leaves, the greens start fading away,
The reds and yellows of autumn start to appear.

The birds of summer are on their migration,
Heading for warmer lands, until winter departs.
Squirrels are gathering nuts for hibernation,
Preparing for their long sleep, once winter starts.

Autumn will begin to reach out its frosty hand,
Touching the edges of dawn, after a cold night.
A sparking whiteness covering all the land,
Within autumns first chillness, a beautiful sight.

Autumn colours are putting on their brightest show,
Upon a breeze, the leaves begin to tumble down.
The leaves of summer, scattered on the ground below,
Gaps of winter showing in autumns golden crown.

Dawn of new hope (poem)

Dawn of new hope

The stillness before tomorrow, of what is yet to be,
The promise of what’s to come amid uncertainty.
What will this dawn bring with it in the coming of its light?
Just what world will there be? What will it bring into our sight?

Time moves forever forward, so it won’t be yesterday,
But some bits will still be here, not everything goes away.
With luck time has discarded all that pain we do not need,
And within that cleared emptiness, planted new hopes seed.

A day out with friends (poem)

A day out with friends

At last the day has arrived, a chance to have some fun.
Spending time with friends, exploring under a bright sun.
Visiting places, seeing what there is to be found,
There is that castle that we all want to look around.
Afterwards let’s visit the lake next to the forest,
Maybe walk alongside and find a place we can rest.
I will bring along a picnic for us all to share,
Who knows we may see some deer; I know they live in there.
There is that museum, with new pictures on display,
Then find a place for a meal to end this special day.

Forgive and let go (poem)

Forgive and let go

Forgive and let go, do not hold onto angers grip,
From the cup of forgiveness, offer others a sip.
In the battle of confusion let forgiveness win,
Call a truce to hating and let forgiveness begin.

The wounds may go deep, festering over many years,
Between all of us we have all shed too many tears.
But within us we can find a better tomorrow,
A world of forgiveness that can banish that sorrow.

Forgiveness can begin with all the things you have done,
Don’t be hard on yourself when forgiveness never won.
Just because you were unable to forgive yesterday,
Does not mean you can’t let forgiveness now find a way.

Let go off your own anger, toss it out from your heart,
Let forgiveness enter in, it’s a good place to start.
Forgiveness does not mean surrendering who you are,
But beginning a new life where peace can travel far.

A short summer night storm (poem)

A short summer night storm

There is barely a cloud in the blue sky of this dawn,
Drops of rain left sitting on the grass tips of the lawn.
Last night’s storm leaving behind its own watery mark,
Abandoning its rain to form puddles in the dark.

A few small branches were blown off in its roaring fear,
But hardly more than twigs, they won’t take too long to clear.
Some flower heads are drooping, but no harm has been done,
They will soon recover with the coming of the sun.

The water is still dripping from the leaves of the tree,
A drop falls from leaf to leaf in its bid to break free.
Free to rejoin its fellows in those miniature lakes,
It landing site revealed from the ripples that it makes.

The garden begins to sparkle as the sun appears,
The roses are adorned with a splattering of tears.
The warmth from the sun will soon drink the puddles away,
Drying out the land for a beautiful summers’ day.

From the past to tomorrow (poem)

From the past to tomorrow

The treasures that are buried in your past,
Add to the richness found in tomorrow.
Although that time of your life could not last,
The memories are there to borrow.
You can delve into them and rummage round,
For what is in there can help with today.
Where past experiences can be found,
Tomorrow’s footsteps can find their way.

Both the present and the past are in you,
Let the two find their future together.
They will lead you to a glorious view,
Where the soul can wander through the heather.
Where the river of hope flows through the heart,
And your love can rejoice in the sunlight.
Together they will show you where to start,
Along tomorrow’s path, all clear and bright.

Nature gives to us this world (poem)

Nature gives to us this world

Nature brings the seasons, a changing world all around,
Where all animals roam and plants push up through the ground.
Nature has a rhythm, rotating through night and day,
When darkness comes, nature knows the dawn is on its way.
Winter turns to spring, the flowers awaken and rise,
Spring turns to summer, nature grows under warmer skies.
Summer turns to autumn, the willows begin to weep,
Autumn turns to winter, nature starts to go to sleep.

Nature brings the weather, calm days and violent storms,
Creating the landscape in all its different forms.
Creating rolling deserts, with its camels walking,
Or tropical rainforests, where tigers go stalking.
Near the poles, the polar bears and penguins raise their young,
All over the world the birds fly and their songs are sung.
From the rain on the mountains, the rivers start to flow,
Nature gives to us this world and all the life we know.

Just what is this world coming too? (poem)

Just what is this world coming too?

Just what is this world coming too?
Just where is it going today?
What are we all trying to do?
Does anyone here know the way?

I woke up confused this morning,
Unsure of the person to be.
As I stood stretching and yawning,
I looked at the world around me.

Everything there is changing,
It’s not the world I use to know.
There is too much rearranging,
A different world’s now on show.

What can I do to improve things?
Can I bring this all to a stop?
Keep a world where the robin sings,
And where the bunnies can still hop.

Standing here in deep reflection,
I look around at what I’ve got,
What can help from my selection,
And the answer is ‘not a lot’.

So, what around me can I move?
What here can help me to begin?
I realised that to improve,
The changes must start from within.

Step by step I’ll change how I live,
Or at least not do any harm.
Where there’s hate, learn to forgive,
Where there’s anger, learn to stay calm.

To make this world a better place,
Each of us can play a small part.
Each of us can show a kind face,
And bring love back into our heart.

Seeking the address of happiness (poem)

Seeking the address of happiness

I woke up this morning determined to find happiness,
Would that be hard to do, for I do not know its address?
Just where do I start? Is there someone that I could ask?
I soon realised that I had set myself quite a task!
I need some directions on even where I should begin,
This could become quite a journey, if I am to win.

I know! Let’s start with yesterday, what can I find there?
Surely in amongst it all, its address must be somewhere.
I can find the odd moments when happiness was around,
But its forwarding address is nowhere to be found.
I could see that there were some with whom happiness has stayed,
But unfortunately, plans to stay with me were never made.

Maybe I need to look back further, times from long ago,
Seek out all those moments when happiness put on a show.
Let those memories run through me, let them bring back a smile,
Those times when I found happiness were always so worthwhile.
They certainly provided clues to help me find a way,
So how can I use them to find happiness’s address today?

Looking back at happiness, I can see now where to start,
For I have realised its address lives within my heart.
It’s from within there that the path to happiness is found,
At that address, many bits of happiness float around.
I could meet a friend, take a walk, or read for an hour or two.
Upon this day of happiness: ‘to thine own self be true’

A Calm Summer Day (poem)

A Calm Summer Day

Airplanes are painting clouds across a summer sky,
Creating long white tails behind them as they fly.
Nature sits in stillness without a summer breeze,
A calmness across the Earth, touching all the trees.

Nothing wants to move on this windless summer day,
Even the grasses have forgotten how to sway.
The warmth of the sun spreads to where its light can’t go,
Creeping into the shadows where smaller plants grow.

The flying of the birds brings movement to the scene,
A swaying branch shows where a squirrel has just been.
Bees are collecting nectar in the flower beds,
Leaving behind a trail of bobbing flower heads.

The stillness of the weather, a calm summer day,
Reminds us that the world can let time drift away.
The busyness of nature, birds singing their song,
Reminds us that the world is never still for long.
