The light beyond the storm of sadness (poem)

The light beyond the storm of sadness

Beyond the horizon a light will be found,
For this darkness cannot endure forever.
There may be no light just here, looking around,
But it will come, like a change in the weather.

There is no rainstorm that can last a lifetime,
Beyond the storms far horizon, light prevails.
Eventually the bells for clear skies, will chime,
All we need to do is to endure all the gales.

I can see no light there yet for tomorrow,
But I can remember it lived in my past.
So there will be an end to all this dark sorrow,
For it tells me that this darkness cannot last.

So how do we survive this darkness just here?
How can we believe there will be light once more?
Can we make this storm of sadness disappear?
Can we make the world the way it was before?

There is no going back, so let’s just turn around,
Let’s look forward, and with this darkness endure.
Within ourselves, an inner light can be found,
With each other, we can look for a cure.

This darkness will end, but what will we all find?
If we do nothing then the storm would have won.
But if we can reach out and work with one mind,
Then a better world will be seen with the sun.

The playground awakens (poem)

The playground awakens

The playground stands empty, silent, and a little forlorn,
Waiting there for the sunrise to bring with it a new dawn.
Throughout the darkness of the night the playground has laid bare,
It’s swings and roundabouts, in stillness, have been resting there.
Some creatures of the night have travelled through it, once or twice,
A fox, two hedgehogs, and alongside its hedgerows, some mice.

The sun creeps above the horizon, chasing off the night,
On the top of the slide, it deposits dawns early light.
Sliding down it slowly, it reaches over to the swings.
On top of the climbing frame, a robin lands and sings.
A new day has begun, dawns sunlight spread everywhere,
Announcing to all the world that the playground is still there.

Its does not wait too long before the first children arrive,
Its swings and roundabouts, once more, become alive.
The sound of laughter breaks the silence the night left behind,
With the children racing around to see what they can find.
In the playing of their games, new friends they begin to make,
Fun and happiness are found, now the playground is awake.

Sweet love remembered (poem)

Sweet love remembered

The sun once rose upon us, so clear and bright,
A new dawn arrived, from life’s darkness came light.
Love was born, growing so deeply from within,
A world full of promise where our love would win.

Time spent together in the warmth of the sun,
Although if it did rain, life could still be fun.
A coffee that was shared just between us two,
A moment in time just there for me and you.

Laughter and joy we would find every day,
If some tears appeared, they soon faded away.
Walking barefoot together on the seashore,
Memories captured, and stored forever more.

Alas the sunset came and you had to go,
But although you are gone, your love I still know.
Sweet love remembered, kept safely in my heart,
Always a part of me, never to depart.

A frosty early autumn dawn (poem)

A frosty early autumn dawn

The morning sun is rolling across the windowsill,
Nice and bright, but I can see outside there’s been a chill.
Frost has landed upon the lawn during this cold night,
Glistening in the early sun, autumns dawn delight.
Resting on the branches and decorating the wall,
Announcing on this dawn that autumn has come to call.

Putting on my old boots, I shall take a walk outside,
Just a gentle stroll, for it’s far too early to stride.
Leaving my footprints behind me as I wander pass,
The creatures of the night have left their own in the grass.
Upon a frosty branch a robin begins to sing,
The hibernators will soon be sleeping through to spring.

The leaves upon the trees glisten in the rising sun,
The change to their autumn shades has already begun.
This first frost will seal their fate, the trees will let them go,
Floating down to the ground, or to where the wind may blow.
The frost is now melting on this early autumn day,
Soon it will linger longer, now winters on its way.

We are the Earths Guardians (poem)

We are the Earths guardians

There is just one Earth, a world where we all live,
A beautiful place that has so much to give.
A spinning rock of life going round the sun,
And across its lands, wild animals run.
Within its oceans, the fish go swimming by,
Above its oceans, the albatrosses fly.

Among the creatures on this beautiful place,
There is one that calls itself the human race.
Unique upon this earth, free to move around,
In every part of the Earth, we are found.
Every sea we have crossed to lands anew,
Every continent we have travelled through.

We can touch every creature, learn their way,
Understand their lives and watch their young play.
We can change the landscape, change all that we see,
Only humankind has this ability.
We are the Earth’s guardians, to love and care,
To look after this world that all creatures share.

I do not have to be the best (poem)

I do not have to be the best

Must I be the best? Can I not just rest?
What is wrong with this life I have now found?
I could climb higher, become a flyer,
But I like having my feet on the ground.

Must I run ahead? Jump out of my bed,
Every morning, must I start life fast?
If I stand behind, more peace I might find,
Perhaps a tranquil moment that will last.

I see a bright light, filling up my sight,
Saying to me ‘here fame and glory be.’
But all that I find, is that I am blind,
And life’s beauty I can no longer see.

I quite like my life, there’s not too much strife,
I have enough to be content right here.
For here I can smile, and rest for a while
Going slow to let contentment stay near.

Three wishes for your sadness (poem)

Three wishes for your sadness

I am wishing that today you find a smile within you,
A day that is full of sunshine, with clear skies in view.
A day where harmony and peace are floating all around,
A day full of joyfulness, and where happiness is found.

I am wishing that you will discover upon this day,
That there is a better life for you, a much better way.
That there is just here, a path to lead you back to the light,
That will bring you back into a world so alive and bright.

I am wishing for you that your tomorrow will bring,
A world where your hope can, once more, take off on a wing.
A world where you land safely with your feet on the floor,
A world where I can hear your laughter ring out once more.

I am making for you a gift of these three wishes,
And wrapping them all up with lots of love and kisses.
Please accept them from me and then unwrap them just here,
They are to be stored in your heart, kept forever near.

Night of glory (poem)

Night of glory

A night of glory,
Each star tells a story,
Twinkling like diamonds in the night.
The sky’s crisp and clear,
Brings the starlight near,
The wonder of the universe in sight.

Bats take to the air,
Their insects are there,
An owl hoots as it prepares to take flight.
Hedgehogs start creeping,
Hunting, and foraging,
All the wonders to be found in the night.

A blank piece of paper (poem)

A blank piece of paper

A blank piece of paper sitting there in front of you,
Revealing nothing, but with so much there you can do.
A place you can write or draw, the choice is yours this day,
Just pick up a pen or pencil and doddle away!
It doesn’t have to make sense, just release what’s in your mind,
It’s amazing what’s in there, waiting for you to find.
Perhaps just a few squiggles, to the top or to the side,
Or slap bang in the middle, a circle can reside.

Some words could be written, whatever comes into your head,
You could write them backwards, or upside-down instead.
Once you start writing, more words may start to come along
Who knows, you could even end up writing a new song.
You could add in a drawing, fill up an empty space,
Lots of little doddles going all over the place.
When you have done and there’s nothing left you want to try,
You could make a paper aeroplane and let it fly.

Strangers in a common world (poem)

Strangers in a common world

I can never be you and you can never be me,
The images that pass through your eyes, I cannot see.
The thoughts that pass through your mind, the ideas that you seek,
Will follow their own light and be forever unique.

I can only be me and you can only be you,
Each one of us is born with different points of view.
We each have our own methods of getting through a day,
We each have our own life to live, our own words to say.

But this world that we live on, is one that we all share,
Common to us all, a place for which we should all care.
We share the same sights when we are standing together,
Seeing the same landscape, and sharing the same weather.

Different views we may have, but together we can talk,
Different lives we may have, but together we can walk.
We can bring who we are, everything we can give,
And with love, patience, and kindness, in peace we can live.
