Do I have the perfect life? (poem)

Do I have the perfect life?

Do I have the perfect life? a question I asked myself today,
But then upon reflection, just what does perfect mean anyway?
Does a perfect life mean that I can buy anything that I see?
Or that I already have everything that I need for me?

Is a perfect life something that is just hiding around somewhere?
That if I knew just where I should look, would I find it waiting there?
Could someone else find my perfect life, a present they can then give?
Or must I look to others and their lives, to see how I should live?

But why wish for what others have! Try to mimic all that they do,
For I have found that just being kind is enough to get me through.
Being kind to others can bring a joy, a richness deep within,
And being kind to myself brings me peace, when life is hard to win.

As the evening comes (poem)

As the evening comes

As the evening comes to bring the closing of the day,
Nature starts to settle down as the light fades away.
Another busy day is over, it’s time to rest,
As the sun slowly fades from sight, sinking in the west
The rabbits return to their barrows deep underground,
Just nibbled remains of grasses left scattered around.
The birds sing their final song as the dusk settles deep,
Settling on the bushes and trees to go to sleep.
The squirrels climb into their holes as the night descends,
For the creatures of the day, it’s now that their day ends.

As the evening comes to bring the starting of the night,
The creatures of the day have all disappeared from sight.
The world belongs to the moonlight and the stars up high.
The bats begin to wake up, spread out their wings and fly,
Sending out their echoes as they seek their food to eat.
The foxes start their hunting, so agile on their feet.
The hedgehogs are rummaging for insects in the lawn.
The owls go hunting silently from dusk until dawn.
Nature never knows stillness, only its cast gets changed.
As the evening comes, so nature just gets rearranged.

Olympics: In friendship and peace (poem)

Olympics: In friendship and peace

In friendship and peace, let the Olympic games begin,
Uniting the world through these games, whether we lose or win.
Uniting the people in these games, as they compete,
Uniting the rest of us, as we watch from our seat.

Let the games bring a chance to learn about each other,
Bringing us a chance for new friendships to discover.
Recognising that we have one world that we all share,
Bringing understanding and letting us learn to care.

When it’s all over, let us take those friendships away,
Let’s remember the joy this unity brought our way.
Within each of us, we carry the Olympic light,
Let’s forever keep the peace found there, within our sight.

Am I going backwards or forwards?(poem)

Am I going backwards or forwards?

Am I going backwards or forwards? I do not know.
Would looking upwards or downwards show a way to go?
Some ways look clearer, while others are fading from view.
Should we look back at the old? Or consider the new?

So many times through life it has not been too easy,
When I find a place of calm, it starts to get breezy.
When I find a time of peace, hoping that it will last,
The rhythm of life starts beating its drum and strolls past.

From all of this, I am coming to the conclusion,
That a place of harmony is just an illusion.
That a life in pursuit of perfection is unreal,
So just what should my emotions start trying to feel?

Only this moment is real and all that it contains,
When it comes to the past, just its history remains.
When it comes to the future, it always begins here,
And only towards the future can we ever steer.

Just stand in this moment, for it’s here that we belong,
From this moment in life, our future starts strolling along.
With all of life’s confusions, tip them out of your mind,
With all the anger of the past, just leave it behind.

You are who you are! All that you need is found within,
Inside your own heart is where your future can begin.
Within yourself, kindness and love can be found today,
When your life gets too confusing, let them guide your way.

Let peace find a way (poem)

Let peace find a way

Let peace find a way when anger rages all around.
In amongst all the confusion, let calmness be found.
When chaos takes control, keep your own order within,
Banish those shards of anger, let the healing begin.

Let peace find a way through the turmoil and the sorrow.
Anger has no place in the world of our tomorrow.
When no path can be seen that would take anger away,
Then within your own life, let your calmness guide your way.

Let peace find a way on whatever road that you take.
Peace can always find a way in the choices we make.
Fighting anger with anger will just help it to grow.
If we let peace in, then a better world we will know.

The scattering of sunlight (poem)

The scattering of sunlight

The scattering of sunlight dancing through the trees,
The flowers swaying to the sound of the buzzing bees.
Butterflies start dancing with the rising of the sun,
Their colours shining now that another day’s begun.
The birds sing their dawn chorus, greeting the suns new light,
The bees, the birds, the butterflies, to the skies take flight.

The scattering of sunlight spreading across the ground,
The rabbits start emerging to see what can be found.
The deers start wandering, nibbling the leaves and grass,
Taking sips of water from a stream they wander pass.
The otters on the riverbank race along its rim,
Then dive into its water, where they can play and swim

There is no need to apologise, my friend (poem)

There is no need to apologise, my friend

There is no need to apologise, I do understand
Just take the time you need, perhaps I can lend a hand.
You have helped me so many times before when in need,
Now it is my time for me to return the good deed.
If you just need some time to rest for a little while,
Then just let me know when you are ready for a smile.
If you are feeling unwell, is there something I can do?
Just say if you need anything sorted out for you.
For now, just do what it is that you need to this day,
Remember I am there if you need me in some way.

The splinters of yesterday (poem)

The splinters of yesterday

Passing through splinters, the creations of yesterday,
After the explosion that tossed them all around.
Those fragments of your past, around you they spin and sway,
Swirling close to you as they fall slowly to the ground.

It’s a dramatic ending to that life you once knew,
Those splinters can be painful as they go swirling by.
But as they spread, a new world’s coming into view.
Thinning out, they bring to you glimpses of a new sky.

Slowly the view changes, a new life is appearing,
Although some splinters lay there buried within your heart.
But each day’s improving and the pain’s disappearing,
And over time all those splinters will fade and depart.

The joys of tomorrow lie within this spinning cloud,
Those splinters were part of yesterday agony.
But the splinters will fall, like the releasing of a shroud,
They cannot linger within your life’s new destiny.

Time will sweep them away, taking all their pain and strife.
The breeze of new hope will leave the space around you clean.
Leaving a better view, revealing a better life,
Towards tomorrow, only clear skies can now be seen.

I have found a new day! (poem)

I have found a new day!

I have found a new day! It was just waiting there for me,
All I had to do was wake up, and there it was to see.
I know I found one yesterday, but that is in my past,
Between now and tonight, this new day is going to last.
All fresh and new, ready for me to go out and explore,
It is a different day to the one that went before.

So how shall I begin this day? Should I become grumpy?
Talking with a growl and making everyone jumpy.
No! this new day is not meant for that, it is all brand new,
Why waste it with a frown before it has come into view.
Why ruin what could become a day where my life has fun,
Why put a black mark on something that has barely begun.

I could go around laughing, but just what would others think?
That maybe I’m going crazy and need to see a shrink!
That maybe I enjoyed drinking one too many, last night.
No! that is not who I will be, when I come into sight.
Let them all see someone who is sober when I go out,
I do not want to be stared at when I’m walking about.

So, I shall start this day in neutral, neither fast nor slow,
And reflect for a short while on how I want it to go.
Perhaps I will just let it roll in and see what is there.
What happened to me yesterday, this day is unaware.
Today’s a chance to leave yesterdays’ problems far behind,
Let’s just get up and see what, in this new day, I will find.

There is always tomorrow (poem)

There is always tomorrow

There is always tomorrow, for time never stands still,
If today cannot find a way, then tomorrow will.
If today’s going nowhere and your past cannot guide,
Tomorrow brings a light from which today cannot hide.
It may seem very dim and almost out of your sight,
Just hold onto hope, for tomorrow carries its light.
Just look to the future, it begins every day,
Within every tomorrow there will be a way.
Let tomorrow’s hope guide you, when life’s going nowhere,
Just look into your heart, tomorrows light shines in there.
