Between Christmas and New Year (poem)

Between Christmas and New Year

Between Christmas and New Year,
Let the joy and fun stay near,
Share this moment with kindness in your heart.
Whether it’s for the Lord’s birth,
Or a new year on the Earth,
Spend your time celebrating this new start.

Let this be a special week,
With good times for you to seek,
Just let those good memories come your way.
Go with a friend for a walk,
Or just sit somewhere to talk,
You don’t need a crowd to enjoy the day.

Perhaps split up what you do,
Giving some time just for you,
And giving time for friends here and there.
Catch up with your family,
Going there for cake and tea,
Your greatest gift will be the love you share.

Kindness, a Simple and Great Gift(poem)

Kindness, a Simple and Great Gift

Kindness is a simple gift, but the greatest found in life,
Found in many shapes, costing nothing, and is good for all.
With its giving, it can bring great joy and ease someone’s strife,
Ranging in size from very large to surprisingly small.

It can be as small as a smile that they see on your face,
When into your world, their own steps take them upon this day.
Maybe you are two strangers just passing through a strange place,
But your smile could give them strength, as they wander on their way.

If they stumble and fall, it can be the gift of your hand,
That you offer for helping them get back up off the floor.
If they are confused, then you can help them to understand,
Help them to find a way to carry on through life once more.

The gift of your time given to someone who is in need,
Can lift them out from a place of sadness to pure delight.
Even just a few minutes you spend doing a kind deed,
Can turn lives around, bringing some hope back into their sight.

You do not need anything to be kind, this gift is free,
At any time and in any place, your kindness can start.
The wonder with your gifts of kindness, that you will soon see,
Is that the kindness given, gives kindness back to your heart.

Let the World spin on its own (poem)

Let the World spin on its own

Life is spinning round you as you try to find a way,
Confusion replacing certainty on this long day.
When your normality starts to become the unknown,
Make this the moment to let the world spin on its own.

Stepping back will not stop the real world from spinning round,
Harmony returns when you toss your stress to the ground.
Take a walk somewhere, perhaps visit the countryside,
Stroll by the river, then watch nature from a bird hide.

Slow your life down and leave the real world to walk on by,
The sun doesn’t need your help as it crosses the sky.
Life carries on, whether you run or stroll through this day,
The dawn will still arrive as the world spins on its way.

Let all the tension leave you, just go off and explore,
Wander round a park that you visited long before.
Be pleasantly surprised when you see how much has grown,
Life’s amazing when you let the world spin on its own.

Remembering the Fallen (poem)

Remember the Fallen

Only in our memories they now remain,
As history takes their time out of our view.
Old battles they fought on land, sea and by plane,
But their valour and deeds stay forever new,

Let us not forget the battles that were fought,
Remembering that they still take place this day.
Let us give thanks for what their sacrifice brought,
And to hope that peace will one day find a way.

Life’s Encounters (poem)

Life’s Encounters

Encountering a new dawn brings to our world some new light,
Leaving behind the darkness as tomorrow comes in sight.
A chance to leave yesterday behind, all its pains and strife,
For within that new dawn, comes the promise of a new life.

Encountering a new path gives us a chance to explore,
To travel a different way, a chance to find out more.
To leave behind the old ways with the promise of the new,
A change of direction bringing a new world into view.

Encountering a stranger gives us a chance to find out,
How others live in this world, what their lives are all about.
A chance to discover if we could learn from what they know,
Or if we could help them to find a better way to go.

All these encounters in our life, brings us a chance to change,
To see what we have become, with a chance to rearrange.
For every encounter will affect us on this day,
A chance to find some wisdom as we travel on our way.

Time is an Illusion (poem)

Time is an Illusion

Time is an illusion, or so that’s what people say,
But there are days when it is firmly here to stay.
When it refuses to move forward, but just stands there,
Quite content to hang around, without the slightest care.
Sitting quite comfortably, refusing to budge,
Ignoring every effort to give it a nudge.

There are days when time just wants to go at a slow pace,
And will only move if you drag it around the place.
Barely putting one second in front of another,
Watch carefully, and some movement you will discover.
It will creep along, finally reaching the days end,
But sometimes it fools me, as it’s just gone round a bend.

There are days it keeps me company, by my side,
Happy to accompany me, and matching my stride.
Those days become a pleasure, as time just rolls along,
Within that moment of time, I happily belong.
It clearly stays within my view, such a joy to see,
Regardless of what I am doing, it is there with me.

But time can be an illusion, when it goes too fast,
I’m barely in the moment, before it goes racing past.
I can’t see where the time has gone, it left me behind,
Wherever it went to this day, I will never find.
I reach the end of the day, before it got started,
Time did briefly appear, and then quickly departed.

Kindness, the bedrock of humanity (poem)

Kindness, the bedrock of humanity

When Kindness gets lost amongst harsh words spoken today,
It has merely found a safe shelter where it can stay.
Within the patience of silence, kindness is living,
From within that shelter, kindness carries on giving.

Kindness has a strength that anger will never contain,
Beneath that dark storm of anger, kindness will remain.
For every storm must weaken, it’s words must run dry,
Whilst every act of kindness gives us strength to try.

Kindness is the bedrock of humanities strong heart,
Whenever a storm thunders in, it will soon depart.
Those rains of discord may tumble down, bringing us strife,
But the strength of kindness will bring back a better life.

So when life becomes muddy, with no peace anywhere,
Just dig into your heart, your kindness will be found there.
Sharing just a small piece of your kindness, makes it grow,
To join with others, bringing a better world to know.

The Strength of Peace (poem)

The Strength of Peace

Peace may be a whisper, barely even heard,
Maybe just appearing as a single word.
Lost amongst so many others flying around,
But somewhere within them, peace can still be found.
Somewhere amidst those harsh words being spoken,
Is that precious word of peace being woken

Peace may be lost for now, somewhere far behind,
Amongst those words of anger, it’s hard to find.
But still that word keeps appearing here and there,
Creeping gently over the edge of despair.
Moving away from those dark words that bring pain,
Nudging words of light into the world again.

Peace may be forgotten by all those who hate,
But within our hearts, peace has the strength to wait.
Those words of hate will end, burned by their own heat,
Then from those chards, peace will stand on its own feet.
Peace will march forward as it becomes a call,
For always, peace is the strongest word of all.

Stockroom Disorganiser (lighthearted poem)

Stockroom Disorganiser

The stockroom’s almost overflowing and needs a good sort out,
But I will need some guidance to help me move it all about.
I have been given the perfect schedule, laid out nice and neat.
My actions ordered for me, starting from the top of the sheet.
They should have been easy to follow, or so that’s what I thought,
But instead of calm simplicity, my confusion got caught.

I knew things may be moved more than once, to give me working space.
But as soon as I started, things already seemed out of place.
I had to fill up the brown box, except it wasn’t empty,
It said we should find nothing in there, but no! There was plenty.
Next it tried to tell me to move a box that wasn’t there,
No matter how hard I looked, the third shelf was completely bare.

I looked carefully around me, and everything seemed wrong,
According to my guidance sheets, things were not where they belong
I bump into some items that were sitting next to the door,
But I was sure that nothing was meant to be there on the floor.
I could see it stated clearly that that was how it should be,
So by now this perfect schedule, was making no sense to me.

Standing there in confusion, my suspicion started to grow,
A spreadsheet had been used, to work out what I needed to know.
They are so helpful, letting you order which column you choose,
That if you ordered the wrong one, then you were bound to lose.
What was step one, so I found out, should have been step twenty four,
Now that it’s correctly ordered, I will attempt it once more.

To be a Serious or Lighthearted person? (poem)

To be a Serious or Lighthearted person?

Must I become either serious or lighthearted?
Is it defined in me from the day my life started?
Can I decide which one as I travel on my way?
Or must I choose one, and throw the other one away?
Must I let the world tell me which of these I should be?
Accept that only one of those two can represent me?

Such difficult questions! Perhaps a little too deep.
If I only knew how, then both of them I would keep.
So am I looking at this from the wrong direction?
Maybe I do not need all of this deep reflection.
Life was never meant to be a choice of black and white,
But is full of colour, mixed in shades from dark to light.

I can just look at each moment as it comes along,
Judge whether to laugh, or to be serious and strong.
Allow myself to switch between them during my life,
Let a touch of humour help guide me through times of strife.
Which one to choose this day can depend on what I find,
And if I’m still not sure which, then I will just be kind.
